Perhaps “the blood of grapes” will drown your sorrows.

That’s red wine, silly, RED WINE. :))

Steve Remembers - from yesterday Greebo, you got it in one, outstanding! I had Vimes for a loooong time, but no one ever noticed. Or if they did they didnt mention it.

I teach American History and use the Melville poems when I do the Civil War. There are some excellent poems out there, written by soldiers, which show the horror and stark beauty of battle. I think McCrea and Melville rank right up there with Kipling in this regard.

I read Billy Budd last year. Real tough book to read. I enjoyed it, but to be honest was grateful that it was not very long.

Dypak - I thought I had commented on Vimes here a few months ago when we “came out of the closet” to explain Discworld to Justin! I note that the “reformed vampire” in the current arc is very Discworldy too!

It’s been a long time since I read “Billy Budd.” I don’t recall how difficult it was - though I don’t usually persevere very hard! Poems – I like what I’ve read of Whitman, and Magee’s “High Flight” (another Canadian!) can’t think of any other military poets I know off hand.

Better quit before we bore the neighbors!
