How many of you remember that sinking feeling of being sent to see the principal. I sure do. It was a question of whether I would throw up or wet myself first.
Oh yes, the LONG walk to that office…how well I remember! I also remember one year I wore a pair of black oxfords that SQUEAKED. I was more mortified over the squeak than being sent to that office. Classroom doors were always open, the other kids would look my way as I walked (squeaked!) by. Thinking back, one of my infractions was writing ‘nope’ on a yes/no test for all the no’s. Unfortunately my teacher did not appreciate my sense of humour. Same teacher also caught me passing notes. One of the rare occasions she didn’t send me on that forced march, just yelled bloody murder. She had a good set of lungs too! Ah the memories!
I’m amazed we never see Susy’s parents nose to nose bellowing at Calvin’s parents for the trouble he gets her into.
I never had the walk myself… My best friend and i did get chased out of the classroom by our math teacher. He was throwing erasers and chalk at us. Once we got out the door we ran all the way to the far end of the playground and waited until the bell for lunch rang. We managed to sneak into the cafeteria unnoticed. The next day Mr Mann acted as though nothing had happened (and we were happy to go along with it).
This time Calvin’s gone too far! I’m sorry but, Poor Susie! She didn’t do anything to desrve this! I had gym class (in an annex across the street) right before metal shop, on the other end of the main building, and the only way I made it on time is if I ran. I got fed up with running and started walking to the office instead of my class. eventually, I “owed” the principal about 800 hours of detention, because the penalty for skipping it was to have it doubled, and I didn’t always feel like going…
Eventually, he changed the policy, because it wound up just being silly :) An hour a day for 800 hours? I would have had to come back after graduation to finish em out :)
Never had to go to the principal’s office for being in trouble. But I always wondered why a troublemaker would go, unless they were escorted? I mean, wouldn’t a trouble maker think it was a good excuse to gyp school?
Reminds me of jr high school… the principal’s name was Slaughter so if you got sent to the office for anything you heard “oooooooo goin’ to the slaughter-house!!!”… ahhhh those were the days………

Miss Wormwood really IS a worm! Sending one of her (most likely) best student to the principal’s office simply for talking in class (once) and writing a note (once)???!!! I went to a Catholic school for the first 8 years of my school life and didn’t get treated this harshly by the nuns!!!!!!!!!!

My devoted, sweet, timid and lovely wife to be, in a rush to catch the school bus which showed up early, left her homework due that day on the kitchen table. Teacher made her sit in a chair outside in the hall. She never ever forgot it again, but it almost scarred her for life and certainly would have had she been sent to the principal’s office. She cannot remember ever getting a spanking at home or in school.
The hall is so big because it’s so empty. Everyone else is in class. It’s a lonely trip. I expect if Calvin had to make it he’d don his Spaceman Spiff persona, and make his escape from the evil aliens.
if you are so sure you are right run away from the school, and prove your innocence my girl. you dont have to take this punishment, unless, you are guilty in some way.
the truth is she was writing notes and she was talking in class. wow, people think susie is innocent have a limited moral perception. just because someone else does it doesnt make it right for you to follow suit. the thing that seperates calvin and susie is that susie is stupid enough to get caught and calvin.. well he just dont give a damm

One of my trips to the principal’s office ended up with me sitting in the little tiny desks in the first grade classroom (I was in 6th grade at the time & it was a tight fit).
My first grade teacher had a whole repertoire of punishments that never got us out of her sight. We were tied to our desks, our mouths were tied up, hands were smacked with the ruler, we were stood in the corner, spanked in front of the class and a whole host of other fun stuff. She did several stints in a mental hospital, but actually I really liked her – except when I was the one with my mouth tied up (for talking of course) and she invited the principal to come and see me. That was a little embarassing.
