It is the basic problem. Grown-ups never know how to fix things in the world and they never hand it over until they get thrown out.

I think Calvin’s a bit too used to running things according to the Dictator-For-Life model. Even with a fearsome Chief Tiger at your side, the leakest weak in that chain is always…you.

Why not Calvin for president? He could not be any more inept than the Bushs or more deceitful than Clinton. Too soon to judge Obama.

No, it’s not too soon to judge Obama. Many people started doing that as soon as they saw his face. Who cares about the Dems and Republicans? Vote the Cartoon Party! Calvin and Hobbes in ‘13!!!

It’s only “too soon” to judge Obama if you’re blind, deaf and buried in a hole 2 miles underground. While he whines about the deficit he “inherited” he “fixes” it by quadrupling it. The correct judgment is, he has bankrupted the USA and has only just started spending. How much time do you need to figure that out?

Hey Zippy007, how about you take your political diatribe to an appropriate forum.

The same thing goes for the other posters of real-world political opinions.

I was called by pollsters a week after the election, with questions like how do you think Obama is doing in office.

They seemed a little nonplussed when I couldn’t answer there questions with anything but, “He hasn’t done anything yet, how can I say favorable or unfavorable.”

Personally I think we are heading for trouble, because the Dems have a super majority. No party should ever have that, not the Dems, Reps, or Indies.

Rakkav: what is a “leakest weak”?

2: I have voted in many elections. The Dems, as well as the Reps, have tried to take things away from us, or force things upon us that aren’t good. We’ve made it this far, and I ‘m confidant that we will continue to do so.

Has anyone else considered the option that maybe a higher power is at work here…telling us that we need to change…drastically!?!?!

To Dberrymanal1: Go back a little farther in your history book - it’s been a lot more than the last 4.

To yyyguy: It’s not that suddenly no one approves of them after they take office - it’s that once win the election, they’re not worried about winning, so their campaign promises fly out the window, or through the paper shredder, whichever.

And to Joe Allen Doty: It hasn’t been “almost 10 years” it’s been well over 10 years since Calvin & Hobbes was drawn. Bill Watterson retired the little terror and his tiger way back in 1995. The 3,160th and final strip ran in newspapers on December 31. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was so upset I couldn’t concentrate on my work for a week.

WOW, it’s incredible, I can’t agree with ANY of you about this particular strip… I remember first seeing it a decade ago (at least), and it is still one of my favorite panels from the comic. It appears to be a polarized view here, a collection of cynical realists or ostriches with rose-colored glasses on… no offense.

As far as those stuck in the real world - I agree with you in that there IS real truth in this strip, but it is optimistic and forward-looking, not the cynical diatribes you’ve been twisting it into. I hear a generation (Calvin’s & mine) that is willing to take on personal responsibility for making positive change happen in the world.

For those who only want to stick their heads in the sand and pretend comics are just a world to escape to, I guess that’s your choice, but you’re missing an entire dimension to the art shared in comics - real things shared that matter.
