Well I gave up trying to repair my computer on my own and took it to the Office Depot. They repaired it right there. I had a burnt memory card. I asked about expanding memory and they said I could double the memory but do it cheaper by doing an online purchase. The repair wasn’t too expensive, but I wish I hadn’t shelled out money yesterday for something that didn’t work.
I bought an online program once because description led me to think it would fix a problem. It did not and I told them and they credited my bank card! ;-)
@Happy,Not good to buy birds from pet stores (or any animal) they may too easily go the cheaper route of buying from unscrupulous breeders who don’t care well for the animals and overwork breeding females, producing sickly babies that will be nothing but problems. Believe it or not, there are bird shelters in most sizeable cities. I adopted Fitzroy from one, and Cuddles who was with me 23 years was with a family who decided that she could be a problem with new baby. Best to adopt from a shelter or someone who has a reason to part with that family member.
@Grog,I just checked and External Hard Drives like mine (little black box that plugs into a USB port, some wireless) are available on Amazon or NewEgg starting at $69.
Sure, Shika. I sometimes bring work home with me, but not my office computer. All I have to do is connect the external drive to my home computer, do what I need to do, e-mail the files back to myself or bring the removable storage back and move or copy the files back to my office computer. After that’s done, I can and will delete the files.
Thanks Grog. I should do that. I don’t know what’s one it now- I’ll check, but I think that any papers I wrote on it are all in my paper fille. I may save them though, and delete everything else.
x_Tech, I have enough problems with Quicken wanting me to upgrade to a newer version that’s less me friendly and more personal finance challenged friendly. I want something that allows me to configure things the way I want – not geared toward total simpletons.
Happy, DAZZ knows her birds. Take her advice. From what she has posted she knows a LOT about birds. She loves them! Any questions you have, I’m sure she will answer. You can find her at Ballard Street, the most I think, but she appears elsewhere.
I forgot to mention, _Fellow Baby, that while I Iwas trying to will my PC to respond this morning, I popped in my Kelly’s Heroes DVD. So, now if you’re wondering where the he’ll was I, I’ll just tell you now that I had to go.
x-Tech, am I just pooping money down the toilet by wanting to double my memory? Or will I actually actually see some benefit from making that investment?
Happy I hope you get to do what you want for your mother. How are things going with your sister, or maybe I am being too invasive on this forum? I just hope you are well in mind and spirit and know that you did the best you could. We all come at some time to that point in life, and I think you did the BEST BEST that you could, Sir!
Fellow Baby, I had actually planned on watching it next weekend, but knowing I was being held captive on my computer for at least a few hours, I decided to pop in the disk early this morning. I doubt you were even out of bed yet.
Happy you need 2 dogs, or a dog and a cat, from infanthood so they can become friends. I hope you can provide a FOREVER HOME for one or two little critters, whatever they may be. ((((((((((((((HAPPY)))))))))))))))))
No dog or cat.I don’t have the time, now that I have a job, to properly care for a dog.And I just don’t want a cat.I love birds. The sounds they make, the sound of bird song, is soothing. If I do get a dog, it will be sometime after I have a proper fence. Then it will be an “experienced” dog.
When my kids were young I variously had a canary and a budgie (that was really a pair). Even tiny birds can be smart enough to interact and the male budgie grieved at the death of the female with a wing thrown over her saying so sweetly “pretty bird” . I found Cuddles when I was having work don on my car and the guy said his son had a problem with his Cockatoo so I thought they wanted someone to sit it. I met them (and her) at thier house and they actually wanted a new family for her (and she came right to me when I offered my arm, saying “I love you” and tucking her head under my chin). I decided right then.___________________________________________As to programs that want updates, so many do. Roxio was loaded as was Quicken and both prompt for updates and I totally agree (especially on Quicken) I updated that once and when I kept my accounts up to date and tried to do taxes with it, it was so intrusive and wanted to fill things according to entered data even when I knew I had not made it completely up to date (I hate dealing with money matters). Now I use that (and a separate folder of my inbox) to track all my online purchases and contractor work for which I have written checks. Roxio or Windows Movie Maker are what I use to burn disks to share with family. I don’t think my old Corell is compatible w/Win7 and neither is my AutoCAD light. Even the CAD is seldom used and I make do with the photo editing of Irfanview. I used the clone tool to put Cuddles into Stel’s photo of the Pirate chest. I see I deleted that from Flickr tho- think it’s gone.

Make him pay for that, Fergus. Send a screaming liner right back to his mid-section.
Good Morning, cleo, sugar, Fellow Baby & the rest of the CD gang in the bleachers!

Fellow Baby, I was curious. I guess the security program has nothing to do with the running of Windows anyway.
Left a crazy comment at OB.

How you doing Happy?
GROG Premium Member about 11 years ago
StelBel, that picture really made me laugh. But upon reflection, the bubble should be burst on the Yankee.

I replied, Fellow Baby.

Moms services were canceled. They have bin moved to the 21st. Seas are projected to possibly hit 13 feet.

Good Morning Grog, Dry & all CDers out there.

Surprised nobody commented on home plate being backwards. Maybe I’m just too used to the crowd over at Gil Thorp.

Fellow Baby, wow! A store honest enough to tell you you could get something cheaper on line. Amazing!
GROG Premium Member about 11 years ago
Really, Fellow Baby. For a second, I thought I was in Macy’s on Miracle On 34th Street.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 11 years ago
Fellow Baby, LOL! That was a good idea Kris had! Guess that’s why Macy’s is still in business, ROFLMAO!
GROG Premium Member about 11 years ago
I should point out that the computer came with 4GB of memory. I wanted to make sure that I left with what I went in with.
GROG Premium Member about 11 years ago
Unfortunately, I spent $70 yesterday for a useless online solution.
GROG Premium Member about 11 years ago
I thought the problem was virus-related. It never occurred to me that it was actually a component issue.

I looked up John Rocker. He certainly seemed to deserve heckling. Fergus doesn’t though.
Good Evening CDers.

Hi DAZZ That old Corel program sounds great. Too bad you can’t use it.
GROG Premium Member about 11 years ago
I think you may be confusing memory with disk space, Dazz. I have 32gb removable storage should I need to take the data and run.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 11 years ago
StelBel, you are the star of the funny captions and photo mixes. :-)
GROG Premium Member about 11 years ago
My last comment was inspired by the Steve Miller song, Take The Money And Run.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 11 years ago
Grog, do you know if you can erase an external hard drive and re-use it? I have one that has old stuff I don’t need. I sure could use the storage.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 11 years ago
