Oh Calvin why didn’t you ask your dad to help you with the model. With that said I want to apologize to everyone for bringing the mood down yesterday. I have a comic exercise I would like to try with you all. Even you wolf bashers can participate if you wish. So here goes… O.k. let’s say that we live in a comic strip universe. Now what I want to know is given any comic strip that you like what comic strip character would you be.

Ladywolf17: I think I love the comic strip of For Better or For Worse because it looks like a real life and I love to laugh after I read the comic strips of FBFW many years. And Pickles, too! :-)

Think of all the engineering and problem solving skills that children used to learn from building models. Now think about how little they learn from pressing YELLOW-RED-BLUE-RED-RED-YELLOW-GREEN on Guitar Hero or some other mind-numbing video game.

No need to wonder why GM is bankrupt and Chrysler has been sold to the Italians. We’ve trained our children how to avoid learning in favor of just mezmerizing them with flashing lights and sounds.

What we need now is a video game that teaches them Hindi or Chinese so that they can understand basic instructions from their future bosses.

Calvin won’t have to resort to what I used to do when I got tired of one of my old models. I used to load the model with firecrackers connected to a main fuse. If the firecrackers did not do the job, a few squirts of lighter fluid always did the trick. Calvin’s plane will be a wreck before it is completed.

You know, come to think about it, I don’t have any of the model cars I put together as a kid. ?????

Other than agreeing with doctortoon about Brad in Luann having a hot girlfriend, got to wonder about so much of you being familiar with what seem to be obscure characters to me (not including Charlie Brown and other widely familiar examples, of course). Guess I could redirect leisure time to becoming more familiar with comics again, but I see other uses for it.

geo111 On the contrary, this is a public forum and anything and everything is grist for discussion - even politics and religion if it were possible to not degenerate into flame warfare (but unfortunately, it isn’t possible).

It is sad that too many people want to take the humanity out of everything. It is a major cause of the animosity and separation that is so prevalent in this world. It is too easy to denigrate or wish harm to a faceless entity but reason prevails much more often among acquaintances. Geo111, do you also take issue with the posters expressing sympathy and condolences for the families of flight 447? By your reasoning that has nothing to do with this strip.

wolfbyte36 and ladywolf17: Do not be intimidated by one or two narrow-minded voices. You will find that the vast majority of us welcome your sharing personal events and fully support you in their resolution.

The internet is full of forums where almost any discussion topic is welcome. When I want to discuss non-Calvin and Hobbes related topics, I go to where it is appropriate.

And yes, I fully realize that this reply is in itself off-topic.

probably way too late to get in on the comic character thing, but i couldn’t see the comments for a couple of days. i’d pick the lead character of an old strip i haven’t seen in years, but have at least one paperback collection of (somewhere in my large collection of books). to wit, Captain Vincible. (and yes, there’s no ‘in’ prefix. the good captain was anything BUT “in” vincible). sort of like the Charlie Brown of super heroes. anyway…
