An aside from fiction and comedy: For those unawares cats have nerves and blood vessels part way into their claws. Declawing is therefore rightfully frowned upon, and trimming of nails should be done with proper caution and knowledge so as not to go to far as it could hurt the cat.

A cat should never be declawed. That renders them defenceless. I lost two cats to coyotes. If they had claws, they would’ve stood a chance.
