Halley was indeed a bust in 1986, but it was expected to be. Its orbit did not bring it near Earth. It wasn’t like 1910 when it was huge in the sky and Earth in fact passed through its tail. Comet ISON, coming this November, might be the brightest one in history. Stay tuned, Earthlings!
