Mom: $38 for one ornament?? Cathy: It's a collectible "heirloom" ornament, mom! Mom: Your father and I paid $1.50 for our last entire box of ornaments! Cathy: They weren't "heirloom", were they? Mom: They've been hanging on our tree for 45 years!! Cathy: Look! It has a serial number! Mom: If I numbered and overcharged for my words of wisdom, would you start collecting them too??

Mom’s right, but she’s using faulty logic when she references what she paid for a whole box of ornaments that she bought back in 1957. She forgets that in 2001 (the time of this strip), $1.50 doesn’t have anywhere near the purchasing power that it did in 1957 — much less in 2012!

I’m numbering the collectible puppy poop in my yard, and already there’s a line queuing up in the driveway. Seems like a win-win situation to me!

My mom has given one of my daughters an angel ornament and the other daughter a teddy bear ornament every Christmas of their lives. That’s a pretty neat collection. Other than those, my favorite ornaments are “art” made by my children when they were small. Ensoh, how are your yard collectibles selling? lolHere comes the weekend, Cathy Clan. Enjoy!

Cathy’s mom isn’t the ONLY one who thinks $38.00 for a single “collectible ‘heirloom’” ornament is completely nuts!!!!! I sure wish I had Cathy’s money because apparently, she has TONS of it to spare — and burn — if she can so foolishly throw it away on ridiculously expensive ornaments (not to mention clothes) at the mall.

Hi Cathyites!! Well, I suppose we all have to splurge occasionally on something…I hope Lil & Jr are feeling much better today, lightenup!! At least they got it over with before Christmas.
