Nowadays, I think it is easier to be famous than be excellent in one’s field.

Does Hobbes always have an appropriate answer for all of Calvin’s nonsense?

“And what’s that supposed to mean?” It means that from Hobbes’ perspective, you’ll be “Cough Up Calvin”!

Calvin the Conqueror and his faithful sidekick, Hobbes! Well, at least while Calvin can pay him to not reveal any secrets! The truth hurts the reputation…

jimcracky, Please see my comments at the end of yesterday’s posts. Johanan, dsom8 and some others might be interested as well.

Linda Arney, Oh dear. I fear “the verbose, verbal vivisection” has become contagious… catching, even - Snagglepuss Your ‘best left unsaid’ quote (at the bottom) befits Calvin. He would exult in it.

Just dealing with the thread I started on Facebook yesterday (on another religious topic) looks to take up much of my day.

“Calvin the Great” - nah, too much like “Alex the Great”. Try something else.

“The Calvinator” - a joke I (and/or someone here I inadvertentedly remembered) came up with. Now that fits you.

I think that means that Hobbes is set for life… …as far as his desire for tuna sandwiches.

Luckily I’ve never met adults when kids made themselves famous in one bad way. One is serving at 60 life behind prison for horrendous crimes.

@Nabuquduriuzhur, even sadder than those famous for getting into trouble is those who are famous for being famous. Although there is a certain amount of crossover between the groups.

Just like he said Calvin, you will have to cough up. If your famous privileges. If your rich money. Better be nice to Hobbes now.

@RichardSRussell: I don’t know enough about psychological models (beyond applications of Jungian personality type) to even make a decent comment about superego and id. Could very well be. I’ll have to think about that one!

Taken as Jungian/Myers-Briggs types, though, Calvin is definitely ENFP and Hobbes INFJ. In that they remind me of myself (ENFP) and my own “imaginary friend” (INFJ): one led by the so-called Heroic cognitive process, the other by the so-called Oppositional process (conscious vs. unconscious). The Oppositional puts restraints and limits on the Heroric, not always successfully. (This is an insight thanks to John Beebe’s work on archetypes.)

Indeed, we all go through such a conflict, but here we have a case study of how a developing ENFP does it. Were Calvin another kind of personality, so Hobbes would be as well and the source of humor would be different.

I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD LET YOU LOYAL C&H READERS AND FRIENDS OF MARGUERITEM KNOW THAT SHE IS ABSENT BECAUSE SHE HAD A CRASH ON HER BICYCLE WHILE GOING DOWNHILL. SHE BROKE SOME BONES IN HER FACE, BUT IS HOME AND DOESN’T REQUIRE SURGERY. IF SHE DOESN’T POST TOMORROW, I WILL REPEAT THIS AS MOST OF YOU POST EARLIER. I KNOW YOU ALL WISH HER WELL.
