Well, Dawkins’ great “sin” is being outspoken against religion. That’s considered taboo in our culture where we’re supposed to show “respect” for people’s beliefs, no matter how outlandish they are, or how much extremists are trying to control others using them. If you criticize religion, then you must be close-minded. Dawkins’ is the ultimate in open-minded… he will consider any belief, provided there is evidence for it. Which pretty much rules out all the god(s).

@revtry – Assuming you’re not trolling or just demonstrating the point of the today’s comic, it takes a lot of work to ignore that mountain of evidence, doesn’t it? Especially considering you can actually observe it happening. Evolution is absolutely as true as the world is round. Denying evolution is intellectually the same as believing the Earth is flat.

Hey, Wiley. Looks like you’re going to have to draw this storyline to a conclusion lest some of your clientele give themselves an aneurysm explaining how their point of view is right-right-right and if you a) dare to question what they believe or b) take umbrage at their questioning what you believe, you are an extremist nut-job. With the economy I’m sure you’d like to keep as much of your audience alive as possible…extremist nut-jobs or not.

C’mon everyone - lighten up on the religion / politics / science blather. Let’s just enjoy the comic as a comic and nothing more.

I don’t expect people to suddenly accept reality based on postings on a comic strip. But I take heart at the fact that the Internet has allowed atheists to “come out of the closet” without the fear of social ostracization that we’ve had in the past. It’s not about waking up old people, who are probably too far gone, but it’s about making it acceptable for young people to think independently and know that they aren’t alone when they see that religion and all the different gods really seem absurd.

I predict it’ll probably take another 50 years for atheism to exceed the magic 50% level in the population. Mark my words, that will be the biggest thing that the Internet helps bring about. It’s much more difficult to remain in ignorance when communicating with so many different people, rather than the insulated communities of the past.

So while the ignorance such as what I see here is often disheartening, I know that there is a better day coming. Someday we’ll finally shake off the yoke of myths and legends.

Adaptation is not Evolution and Science DOES support the bibles references to science.

Evolution is a reality and religious belief is not denied by it.

I will bet Al Gore is la la la laing too.

I haven’t found any other comic on this site that attracts the consistent number of comments that Wiley does - agreed not all comments are sensible, but many do show some significant thought about the ideas behind the strip. Well done Wiley!

EMET of the Bee Beard, you have taught us – almost taught– a new word, or a word new to me: chiastic. It’s not in my dictionary, but I assume it’s related to the Greek khiazein, “to mark with a Khi (letter X),” i.e., “to cross,” and especially to the past participle of khiazein, khiastos, “crossed. ” How this relates in the context of the conversation, though, in the sentence “Chiastic structure wins again!” is puzzling. Could you please finish the process of enlightening us? I’m new at this site, and this is the first commentary I have followed; but the cartoon itself certainly invited all kinds of spin-off – and got it!

@oCinneide - Yes, I have seen Pibgorn, but usually I see it rather early in the day, so the only comment is fear-ciuil’s standard intro.

Whereas I tend to come back to non sequitur to read the comments before looking at the new day’s offering.

Pibgorn is really aimed at a different audience, I think - I suspect I must be a troll.
