    Good morning all…

What? Is Gertie producing again? What would send the nursing staff screaming? I can hardly wait to see what this is all about! I like B.O.’s choice of reading material.

A shoot out with Dick and Sam against cold-blooded killers – and the return of B.O. Plenty! This keeps getting better!

Terrific art! Is that Fryface, uh, Flyface getting cooked in panel 2? And I love the flies dropping in panel 3.

And great dialogue in panel 3 – considering what the Fifth just did to his last partner, Garcia should reconsider the deal. While he’s still breathing.

Well now we know where Junior was. He went to the hospital to be present for the birth of his newest brother or sister in-law. (grin) I guess he just tailed FlyFace and Ed to the warehouse, and then radioed in their location to Dick and Sam, along with a description of the rental car they were driving, before continuing on to the hospital. Given the reaction of the hospital staff, I am sure the baby is just adorable. (smirk)

I am impressed! In the Breathless Mahoney story line in 1945, B.O. mentions that his father moved B.O. and the rest of the family to the farm in 1892, He’s pretty virile for 119. :)

Great art; this must be why Gocomics has that Add to Favorites icon.

I doubt that the weapon’s batteries hold enough energy to melt an entire gun, but what the hell. If it glows red-hot, we can understand why Lizz wouldn’t grab it. The ammunition might have exploded from the heat, too, and Flyface’s hand could be charred in place on it.

Once again Crimestoppers makes sense. “Used properly” would include mounting the locks, bolts and window bars securely. They’re no use if they’re mounted in rotting wood or with short screws.

Excellent Sunday strip. It not only recaps the week’s action, it does it from another perspective, adds information to the story line, and introduces a new story, all at the same time.

Bill T, your mention of the way the locks mount brought to mind a repair job I had a few years back. The door to an apartment had been kicked in (police action) and I was called to do at least a “good enough” repair so the door would latch and lock again. Wood had to be replaced so I chose some two-by-four for the job. The original wood framing was the kind you’d find in really cheap cabinets, not fit for security at all.

I got it to work, but… the original workmanship was so unbelievably bad I’m surprised it ever passed inspection.

I thought the draughtsmanship for today’s strip was particularly sharp; I like a comic with crisp, clean lines, and the strip has been delivering.

Quite a lot of the cast has been showing up, now. Nice to see them.

I really didn’t see the Fifth and Ed Garica alliance coming. Thought for sure Willie was gonna turn on the P.C. Whiz.

How many Plenty kids does this make now?

Since the new team took over the strip, it’s gone from being something I only looked at when the Comics Curmudgeon pointed out something particularly silly to being a daily read. That said, though… GERTIE has had another kid?! But…but…she and B.O. weren’t exactly youngsters when Sparkle was born, and Sparkle’s been married twice and has at least one kid of her own!

the best feature about spittoon quarterly is that once you’re done with it , there are instructions on how to convert the pages into a real, usable and disposable spittoon.

sure hope they go monthly, just can’t get enough only four times a year

NightShade09 - Maybe I’m over-thinking all this, but I’m thinking that The Fifth (if he were to survive & kill Tracy and Sam) would need the kid to maintain that thing and repair it as needed. His own personal Q - except, you know, evil.

BTW, “Personal Q” was Depeche Mode’s less successful follow-up to that other recording. The more you know…

Speaking of that panel, love the falling flies in the background. I’m loving the attention to detail. Plus, Spittoon Quarterly!

When BO & Gertie had Sparkle, she was in the national newspapers for her gorgeous hair and beauty (found the strip in a Reminisce magazine a year or so ago). With this one the hospital staff is running away screaming. Should get interesting.

Does the hospital provide copies of the “Spittoon Quarterly” in their waiting areas, or do you have to bring your own?

    – Chuckle - sounds like those magazines at wal-mart. Looks like it’s 200 pages, but only about 10 pages is really articles.

The new team seems to have regressed the age of Junior, B.O. and Gertie. Junior looked like a teenager when he was shown. Have they “cancelled” the marriage of Junior and Sparkle? Gertie may have set a world’s record for oldest woman to give birth :)

It was 65 years ago{April 25, 1946} when Gravel Gertie first saw B.O. {Bob Oscar} Plenty. She said,”Without a doubt, that’s the ugliest one human I ever saw. And living next door…UGH!”

‘Cuspidor Quarterly’ would be more alliterative…although it might be a bit too upscale for B.O.

It might not be a new story. Could be Diet is also working on something to do with recombinant DNA and forgot to mention it to Dick.

Wow… that is some crowd-control device (you “control” the crowd by incinerating ‘em?)…

Re “Textbook”: My only quibble is that people need to install their security stuff without blocking fire exits. There are all too many cases of people being trapped in burning homes because of things like deadbolts being keyed on the inside (illegal in some places) or window bars that can’t be opened from the inside. Fire is still a greater threat than home invasion.

Here’s a real description of an existing crowd-control weapon: “As part of the U.S. Navy’s investigation into futuristic nonlethal weaponry, the Sierra Nevada Corporation is building a microwave energy pulse gun that can produce a painful screaming sound inside a person’s head from a long distance away. The inescapable sound, which is inaudible to untargeted bystanders, can be set to irritate, nauseate or even incapacitate people and animals that lie within range. Future applications may include crowd control, military use and even shopping mall security, provided it proves safe from permanent side effects. The science behind it also has the potential to give hearing to certain deaf people, or even projecting voices into peoples’ heads.”

In the future, that voice in your head may really be there.

As I re-read the strip, I realized what great work there is on the colors - panel 2 is really fantastic, with the blast beams and the reflected glare casting highlights on the Fifth and the blaster.

I also like the use of purple throughout to add depth to scenes.

Given how good the script/plot and art is, it’s easy to overlook the inking, lettering and colors. –Thanks Shelley & Shane!

The last “crowd control” weapon I saw was the “Street Sweeper.” It is a 12 ga fully auto machine gun. I put it on my “gotta have it” list ‘till they disappeared and are showing up in the Cartel’s hands.

Of course Fifth can’t just drop the weapon, it’s harnessed around his neck. He must first lift it off his shoulders before dropping it. Perhaps that’s what Fifth’s trying to tell Tracy.

B.O’s beard looks much thicker than I recall.

You would have thought BO and Gretie would be too old to have anymore kids. But it seemed that way when Snuffy Smith and Loweegy had their baby years ago. And he’s hardly grown any in over 40 years! Anything is possible in comics.

Some comics age their characters, others don’t. I remember a ’60s Peanuts cartoon that had Charlie Brown and Linus talking about how nice it would be to turn 21 and be adults. Linus asks, “When will you be 21, Charlie Brown?” CB does some figures, then in the last panel looks up with those dark circles around his eyes and says, ”1984!”. Dennis the Menace has been seven for longer than I’ve been alive. Marvin’s been in diapers for 29 years. On the other hand, Gene has grown up in Arlo & Janis, the Gasoline Alley characters age more or less naturally and even For Better Or For Worse aged its cast until LJ rebooted.

Please, please, pleeeease no more B.O. Plenty for awhile………exactly WHAT is the attraction of a stupid, foul-smelling, lazy, personality-challenged fellow like him, anyways? Plus the episodes with him are always the dullest…….Mr. Bribery’s cigar-smoking cat had more going for him than BO does!
