I agree with you vanpelt, but it ain’t gonna happen. I couldn’t do anything because I am a single female and I won’t be sexually active and “dump” babies onto this planet. Stupid, isn’t it? You aren’t allowed to participate in things like Earth Day unless you are engaging in activities that may destroy it.
Most of the population growth is occurring in third world and developing countries where they don’t always make the wisest decisions for the long-term.
I’ve spent most of my life cleaning up after younger people.
Its one of the things adults must do.
Sometimes I wonder though.
At the Glenn Beck rally in DC a few months ago, there were ‘divisive’ elements that showed up around the edges of the event, and tried to cause problems.
After the event, it was noted that in the areas where Beck supporters had been, it was very clean - those folks left little trash that needed to be cleaned up.
However, the area where the ‘divisive’ element had mostly been were trash filled and filthy, and needed extensive cleanup.
Draw your own conclusions, but sometimes I wish some of these extreme eco and liberal types would take a good long look in a mirror.
I’m 73 and have been reusing/recycling for longer than it had a name. I was taught not to throw out a napkin etc after just wiping my mouth on it because it’s still good for dirtier jobs, and I just realized that the new range I have (because the one installed in my house was garbage that I couldn’t keep well) is the 1st new one I EVER had! I just got back from a neighbor’s moving sale- bought some pillows I can recover. I also found new use for all kinds of junk making projects when I was a denmother and then a coach of them. Happy Easter, everyone!
Lessee; for “Earth Week”, I advocated terraforming Venus, continued to exhale CO2 and water vapor (the latter being the largest single greenhouse gas in the atmosphere), endeavored to generate support for further research into fusion and the interim construction of additional fission power plants; debunked the “windpower” myth again (yes, windpower - specifically wind “farms” are an ecological disaster waiting to happen not to many years down the road), and drove my 16-year-old Jeep back and forth to work - a total of 40 miles a day.
No, I said (pay attention now), the earth is not my mother. The earth is a planet; my mother is a human being.
What I meant was that I reject Ms. Eliot’s muzzy-headed nature-cult religious imagery, as well as the efforts of any other religious fanatic to foist their preposterous religious beliefs on me.

Vanpelt, you are soooo right. Two children per couple (for a few years) and the problem will go away, for free.

We have one of those circular energy saving light bulb. Transplanted trees from mom’s yard to our yard growing.
I know not the right time but Easter Sunday is tomorrow.

tcayer thinks he ‘suffered’ a week of this crap??? Try to imagine what the earth suffers because of people like you. Maybe you should try recycling
and having more than 1 circular energy light bulb, among other things, it might grow on you.

Now, picking up trash I can agree with.

Sheila, raise then with love, kindness, wisdom, and discipline so that they will be prepared to go forth into the world and prosper.

So it’s Earth WEEK, now? They weren’t satisfied with only a day shoving environmentalism down our throats?
