Charlie Brown is on his sled with the reins tied to Snoopy. They are racing along and Charlie Brown is shouting, "Mush! Mush!!"<BR><BR> Shermy stands in the snow-covered lane whiles Violet stands on the steps in front of him. He says, "Y'know Violet, I think you're the prettiest girl in the whole world!" She replies, "Really?"<BR><BR> They turn in surprise and curiousity as Snoopy and Charlie Brown come down the lane, with the latter shouting, "Mush! Mush!"<BR><BR> Snoopy sits in the lane puzzled as Shermy has his fist raised and Charlie Brown on the ground with his lapels in a tight grip. Charlie Brown asks, "What did I do?!"<BR><BR>

Pretty sure the mushy statement is right. Violet wouldn’t have the “?” exclamation if it was just that she was impressed.
To a 5 year old kid, being called mushy is bad. (especially in the 50s).

I get it, Charlie is saying MUSH, as calling Shermy mushy cuz he likes Violet. But CB doesn’t know that, cuz he was talking to Snoopy

Actually mush was another word for lie back in the day. So basically Charlie is unintentionally calling Shermys compliment a lie.
