Meh, half the time I agree with Calvin, Mr. “Well I wanted to get a daschund but noooo…”. I wonder if this particular strip was meant for all the people who complained that Calvin’s dad was a little too uncaring. I much prefer the strips where Calvin’s dad has fun teasing him with ridiculous unscientific facts or pretending not to get a Christmas tree to the ones where he tries to make him “build character” or when he sounds like he’d rather not even have a kid.
I think I might be to embarrassed to talk about it. I’d just listen to Calvin’s dad and say to myself, “So I’m not the only one after all” and just smile.
They had a lot of snow there. How creative Calvin is at least no snowgoons. Calvin if only you put this much effort on school work. Next Calvin will put protests snowmen and signs at school for too much homework.
Child with such imagination, creativity and ability to do hard work (building so many snowmen is not easy task!) is bound to become real villain or real hero. Which one, noone knows.
And that is good that he knows his priorities. Effort into school work? Nah, effort should be used to achieve your own goals, not those set to you by others.
The one with the snowman broken by the car, with the horrified onlookers, had Dad commenting to Mom “I think we’d better get that kid to a psychologist.”

I just have to say: That’s snow picket line!
If they were blocking the driveway, it would be a picket line, and that’s snow joke!
“There’s no business like snow business, like no business I know.”
Hey Calvin - how about a real challenge, like building a replica of the San Francisco Bay Bridge across the length of your parent’s front lawn? You might get yourself on tv with that - much to your parent’s consternation….
Destiny23: Exactly! Just last Saturday Calvin had the time of his life putting ink in his bath water and pretended his little oil tanker crashed and spilled all the oil it was carrying!
