The past tense should have been used. Privacy is long gone. Anything you put on line is public including shared contact lists and all of the social media stuff and your email. We do need good regulations to control the reach of these dot com companies. We need to provide strong cyber security to defend ourselves from state run hacking. However we do need to provide balance to these companies can continue to provide the free services they make available to us.
Folk are funny.. they put their life on social media then complain when the “wrong” group looks at it. What is out there.. is out there forever.. for any group (including the government) to access as they desire.
Don’t forget Apple – This Facebook backlash could tighten regulations on the rest of them. Don’t worry, America will just sell off Facebook to jump on Amazon – and we’ll keep giving out our personal information. As long as we don’t hear about it it is fine, just like with the banks, CEOs, military and oil companies.
These tech giants need regulation, but nothing will happen under the current do-nothing republicans. They would attach anti-abortion or pro-gun legislation to any privacy law anyway. So like everything else, we’ll have to wait until next year to see if the voters decided to elect representative to help them, or to continue to protect businesses from the voters.

charliecsi says, “…The Father has taken this blessing away.” But, happily, the Mother continues with Her blessings.
