You’re not supposed to politicize gun shootings out of “respect” for the victims, but you can be as nasty as you like to any of the survivors if they dare speak in favor of gun control.

Assuming all commenters here are good ‘Muricans, it’s pretty clear the Russian trolls are wasting their time. We’re quite capable of dividing ourselves without outside help.

It always comes down to be willing to abide the deaths of many innocents in order to preserve your completely untrammeled right to military weaponry. No other amendments (like free speech) are infected with that kind of imperial inhumanity.

The notion that kids protesting are just puppets for their leftist teachers was used in the ‘60s and ’70s to try to discredit high school and college students who were protesting the war in Viet Nam.

As a member of that slandered generation of protestors, I can tell you that the right wing propagandists were very wrong then.

They are just as wrong now.

Thankfully, today’s teens can “vote the bums out” when they reach 18; they won’t have to wait, as most of us had to, until they are 21.

Hey Kevin, ever been to Israel. The teachers openly carry there and they don’t have school shootings any more. No one is saying we should require teachers to be armed. It should be voluntary. Many teachers already have concealed carry licenses, but have to leave there firearm at home or in their vehicles when they go in the school. Why should they be forced to give up their “God given right” to self defense?

Yes, I noticed that Trump’s big idea was arming teachers, sending them to training sessions, and requiring them to carry guns. As a former teacher, it was necessary to do a whole lot of stuff for the kids that went beyond anything that involved actual education, but at least serving as the most desirable primary target wasn’t on the list.

Here’s a thought…Insane Alex Jones says that he’s “Just an actor playing a part”, which makes his sleaze fine, but the kids from Florida are “Just actors playing their parts”, which is PROOF OF A FALSE FLAG OPERATION!!!

    Hummm….Hypocrisy, anyone???

When my generation took to the streets to protest the Vietnam war, we were told we were too young to understand the need to engage in warfare to stop the spread of “Godless communism”, and that were just puppets being used by the communist. History proved they were wrong and we were right. Now here we go again.

THEMCCHUCK, when you look at many of the biographies of people in powerful positions in business or government, you will often see that they were very involved in their community, school activities and other organizations starting in high school or even earlier. Don’t insult these kids.

bsisler21, don’t think you’ve been to Israel, looks like you’re channeling Huckabee and he is lying about this – teachers in Israel are NOT armed.

The schools should show that the kids are enrolled in their schools and end this “actor” talk.

CNBC just had a piece about Blackrock Investments getting inquiries about their index funds and owning gun stocks. Of course index funds are set to follow whatever index they follow. CNBC made it seem they were more set to defend these index funds. A better way would be to recommend another fund to these people. You would think they would do this since just a few days ago Mr. Fink (CEO of Blackrock) sent something out about social responsible. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/15/business/dealbook/blackrock-laurence-fink-letter.html

Yeah, lets not let tragedy brought on by continued senseless violence sway us from our duty to preserve the right of every American to be gunned down in a public shooting!

If we’re going to play “Alphabet Soup,” the NRA does not figure in this round.

    - FBI – We all know the news. If they had done their job, the kid would not have had this opportunity. They knew he was planning to shoot up the school.- ACLU – With over 30 complaints and police visits, somehow this young man had his “right to privacy” protected. How many complaints should be filed until the kid is examined, his weapons are confiscated, and he is detained somewhere, even a mental clinic?

The NRA had nothing to do with this, and I feel sorry for those kids, who, yes, were told what to say. I was a High School teacher for many years, coaching UIL, debate, and public speaking, and I would have been proud of their performances. But please understand. Someone else wrote those impassioned pleas.

I want the violence to stop. But until the laws already in place are put in force and observed by our security and military branches of the government, no new laws will do any good.Oh, one more “Alphabet Soup” candidate:

    - ATF – How about, instead of surrounding ranches or religious compounds in Idaho, you station squads in Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, and other major cities where young people are being gunned down every day. Now there are some weapons that need confiscating, and I’ll bet NRA members would help you do it. I haven’t seen many headlines about sheep ranchers or cult leaders shooting up a school.

MAX STARMAN JONES, Florida would not allow the confiscation of guns without Cruz being a convicted felon. What was the FBI supposed to do after they questioned him?

The NRA has promoted weapons designed like military weapons. They heavily promoted the AR-15 which has been the weapon of choice for mass shooters. They fight against ANY regulation, including the weak proposal to at least raise the age for purchasing the weapons to 21. They convinced Congress to block the CDC from tracking gun violence.

If you really were a teacher, I feel sorry for your students. Your denigration of their ability to speak for themselves is insulting, to say the least.

The ATF cannot post armed squads around cities. Sorry, but the US isn’t going to become a military state because fanatics like the NRA and gun zealots want unlimited access to weapons that can kill rapidly. The guns in Chicago, NYC, etc. are coming from surrounding areas that don;t believe in restrictions at all. And if you used REAL numbers PER CAPITA, the numbers are lower than in other places.

And let’s not forget the Bundys who shot at federal agents. But because they were white and people kept chanting about Waco and Ruby Ridge, the FBI was prevented from raiding the place.
