“hmmmm… wan’t this a “no white people” weekend to the Black Panther movie?…” Are you really that dense or just a stupid Russian troll? Actually in this case it would be better if you were the latter because if not, you are truly a sorry excuse for an American…

Have you ever read old newspapers from the 50s and the news stories about Civil Rights? The ugliness in unbelievable.

People think of them as good days because the economy was terrific, and people with blue-collar jobs could afford a house and raise a family on one salary. Of course, we also had strong unions and high top tax rate. And a Government that was willing to regulate corporations and was heavily invested in public works and technology.

For white people and immigrants things were better. For Blacks it was much worse, although I think things IN GENERAL are worse now, for democracy, for infrastructure, for working people, for the economy, for immigrants; most had been assimilated by then, like Irish Polish, Italians, Chinese, and most others. I too like your voice of reason, Some people are unhappy and would be unhappy in any situation.

What conservatives fail to recognize about mid-century politics is that it was a time when lawmakers had the common sense to know how to work together with their political opponents. They recognized that people in opposite political parties were fellow Americans, and knew the art of compromise and cooperation for the good of the American public.

Nowadays they all talk about “fighting” and “winning.”

These days what pass for Republicans are really hard line Radical Libertarians who do not brook compromise. It is alien to them. They are trained to never compromise, to push and push till it gives and win. Chilé is an example of where they won. They came about during the horror of the military dictatorship, their changes to the Chilean Constitution still leaves the majority of people at a loss while the select few elites, military and Fascists still hold sway over them.
