This reminds me of one of the most remarkable men I was lucky enough to know. He was neither rich nor famous, simply a factory maintenance supervisor, active in several sports; but he seemed to know everyone. Whenever I spoke of purchasing anything , from diamonds to duct tape, he would say, “I can get it for you wholesale” and he did. When I got a speeding ticket running an errand for him in another city, he said, “Forget it, I’ll get it fixed” and he did; and it was a Provincial (State) police ticket; and he didn’t simply pay it, as there was no record on my license.
Well, the difference is obvious. Your guy was a factory maintenance supervisor. Mutt never has a job that lasts more than three panels of a comic strip.
