@Commentator; I don’t see this as a put-down of Afghan culture. I think it’s meant to be a satire of what people think Afghan culture is.

For example, do you think that in rendering judgement on two men who had had a quarrel, a judge would likely tell one man to marry the other’s sister? But it shows how we expect the Afghanis to treat women as property.

This cartoon shows all the stereotypes that GT could find. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find that they weren’t true, or not the way we see it.

So. Let me get this unfuzzulated for my ownself. Commentator says among other things that liberals are sensitive to other cultures. Implication there of course is that the opposite, in this case unliberals, are not sensitive to other cultures. It looks like that notion could be a source of many of our problems. It is like an old Navy Chief I once knew who was against our aid to the suffering in Africa. His impeccable logic saw it this way: If you help to keep the children of these societies from starving to death as children then they will grow up and have more children with a larger chance of starving to death. The upshot of his lesson is that we don’t need to understand other cultures we just need to turn our backs on human suffering. Or, if you get your butt into a fight between two brothers because you want some other relative to not stop your ready access to shipping lanes in the Malacca Straits and have no clue about the culture of either brother you are liable to have your hat handed to you. Again, we don’t need to understand other cultures, we just need to try to force them to be more like us. Being a sensitive liberal and wanting to understand other cultures is such a quaint idea, isn’t it? You, Commentator, would much rather just go in and have your hat handed to you, right? Right? Of course you would. You and the rest of your similarly positioned particles of vermin dung.
