A big Republican talking point was Wal-Mart giving out $1,000 bonuses. What they don’t say is the bonuses are based on how long you have been with the company. To get the $1,000, you have to have been with the company for at least 20 years. BTW, the same day they announced the bonus program, they closed 63 Sam’s Club stores.
I wonder if any of you high thinkers actually realize that while they did not announce the closings of the stores in advance (and I mourn the loss -hate to see anyone lose a job and certainly hate to see one of these stores close that was not too far from where I live) this is not something that is done overnight or on a whim. You can deny it, but it was in the works for some time. Just does not happen fast. It is expensive to close a store, too. Even without the tax changes, this was going to happen.
Yes, and if you believe this nonsense you too live in a fantasy land, along with Tigger and Eeyore. And I hope Disney sues your drawers off. A tax cut that lasts how long? Two years? A pay raise that’s how far overdue? From companies laying how many people off? This is plain stupid.
The U.S. economy gained 148,000 jobs in December 2017. The economy needs 150,000 new jobs each month to keep expanding. This suboptimal level of growth may keep the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates at its January or March FOMC meeting.
…
The government gained 2,000 positions. That’s despite President Trump’s promises to streamline the federal government.
Varvel seems to run out of space to tell the WHOLE truth about the GOP tax “reform” giveaway — to the already RICH! [ And by the way, Walmart’s annual profits are greater that $13 billion … while their “generous” raises amount to $300-400 million. PLUS, these raises are just an attempt to match the other retailers! ]
If republicans keep reducing revenue (income to government) how will they ever pay down, much less pay off the national debt? Why is it republicans/gop scream about the debt and deficit spending, yet democrats are the only ones actually doing anything about reducing them.
Republicans put out little worthless papers about what they think people will think is misspending money. Yet they spend on large worthless programs with no accountability.

Hands up from those who are getting a new bonus, a raise, and a proper health care plan. Now, hands up from those who are not getting any of those.

Yep, and Walmart handed out raises and bonuses and closed 63 stores without prior notice. Why did Varvel not add this interesting note to this toon?

Varvie doesn’t mention that 350-500 Carrier workers lost their jobs Thursday, the 11th.. Yeah, jobs Trump and Pence “saved,” a year ago.

Varvel is a partisan Republican. If he weren’t he would add “and then the deficit exploded and my company closed 63 stores.”

Ooh! On this particular incarnation of this page is an ad for a self-cleaning litter box for Kitty. Can we make that a model for our “government?”

Good thing that tax cut won’t expire giving all your breaks to the 1%. Oh wait, it will.
