Hi Rachel
Sometimes, when everyone disagrees with you, later it will turn out that you were wrong and they were right.
But sometimes, you are right, and everyone else is wrong. And this is one of those times. You are absolutely right about Calvin and Hobbes, and the people who disagree with you definitely don’t know what they are missing.
Please keep on sharing Calvin and Hobbes with new friends that you meet, until you find someone who really appreciates them. Then there is a very good chance that you will discover that your new friend is a whole lot like you, and the two of you may become really good friends in the future.
By the way, you are a very good writer. I’m guessing that you also write better than a lot of your friends and family members. If they ever tell you that your writing is “silly,” or “dumb,” or full of “nonsense words,” don’t believe them. Believe in yourself instead. It’s just another one of those times – you are right, and everyone else is wrong.
I had a boss now retired wanted the last word. Now new boss someone got promoted in dept now sure if just have last word. Boss thinking their right all time no one else is.
Calvin we keep our thermostat to 67° until house is warm then use Kerosene to warm up more.
Hobbes wrote yesterday: “Today, Calvin’s predicament reminds me of this GoComics comment page. Occasionally someone visits the group and makes a highly provocative comment from behind the wall of anonymity, essentially daring anyone to attack them.”
“From behind a wall of anonymity”. This coming from someone who pretends to be a imaginary cartoon character. Kettle meet pot!
We went to my daughter-in-law’s father’s house last year and the thermastat was so low that everyone was wearing sweaters and wrapped in blankets. It was the craziest thing that I have ever seen!
My dad kept the heat on in summer! They say when you get older your blood gets thin. He wore long sleeve shirts in the summer except on the very hottest of days! I love summer, sure hope I always feel inclined to wear shorts!
It’s fine and dandy to keep your thermostat at 72 if you can afford it. If not, you have to make cuts, either in the temperature or the amount of food you eat. In our house, the other person thinks 72 is cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
(I have found the best way to deal with “Hobbes” is to just skip over him to the next comment.)
I doubt it would make Calvin feel any better but we heat the house with wood. Our thermostat is set at 58 degrees F and the only time any oil is used is when the temp outside falls below 10 degrees F. My kids wear sweaters and sweatshirts (and the oldest one cuts our wood on our property).
dingo353: If just about all of us here weren’t “writing behind a wall of anonymity” we’d be using our real names instead of the nicknames we call ourselves … you included.
As for me, I read all the posts here because I’m always up for the possibility of learning something new every day and in order to do that, I try to open up my mind to the thoughts, feelings, and opinions of others outside my very little corner of the universe — and a lot of the time, I get that from our very own Hobbes so I hope he’ll continue to post here for people like me who enjoy reading what he has to say every day. If you don’t want to read what he has to say, then skip over it. I just ask that you please don’t spoil it for the rest of us with unpleasant comments. Thanks.
I feel chilly at any temperature under 75F, and I don’t enjoy wearing a lot of layers. However, I can’t justify, even to myself, turning the thermostat above 68F during the day in winter (65F at night). {sigh} At least we have snuggly cats — and each other.
The external tempeature here yesterday was -22C. Brr.
To those readers who maintain a temperatue in the low 60’s F, I presume you live in Europe (different culture, different “room” temperature).
For those who maintain 70F+ I presume you tend to live in more southern climes. I would prefer to to be in a more temperate climate as well. But then I would miss ice hockey.
For GretchensMom - good comments today. I got here very late today (visiting relatives all day) and your thoughts mesh quite nicely with mine.
For Hobbes - keep on keepin’ on. I always enjoy your thoughts, even if they do ramble at times. I have no doubt mine do as well.

Maybe Calvin isn’t as cold as he thought he was after all. Where’s Hobbes? Probably still warm and snuggly in bed.

Our thermostats are at 68 because one can always put on more clothes if one is too chilly. Hmm?

Hobbes, actually, I do have two cousins who also love your strip. Is it wrong to say that you’re sexy in your homicidal psyhco jungle cat book?

Happy MMXI!

We sleep at 66° and stir around at 70° which is not suffering for us. Love our goose down duvet and layered clothing…also each other!!
May 2011 be a special year filled with blessings of joy, peace and compassion!
