that’s the definition of a ferrule, a sleeve or cap or ring typically of metal used to strengthen or prevent wear

This reminds me of an old Little Audrey cartoon in which one of her flowers began crying, “Water! Water!”

Glad it’s called Believe it or Not because I believe the butterfly migration story and i do NOT believe the screaming flowers story and since I do not now(nor will I ever) need to replace parts on a pencil, I don’t care!

Based on this, somebody in Hollywood wanted to do a Hitchcock type movie called The Butterflies; but they just couldn’t make it scary enough.

Any metal ring or sleeve used to keep wood from splitting is called a ferrule.

Most of the time, the facts in this comic are ok, if not interesting to a point. But today’s was awesome! I love words, so I am going to remember ferrule! And to think that flowers actually make a sound when they are thirsty? What the what?! That’s crazy.

I think that when a plant is getting thirsty it starts to dry and crack and it sounds like it is screaming!! LOL!

Although not audible to the human ear, the secret voices of plants have revealed that cucumbers scream when they are sick, and flowers whine when their leaves are cut [source: Deutsche Welle].

So now the fact that a word for something (e.g. ferrule) that can be found in any dictionary becomes worthy of inclusion just because some folk may not know it. That in itself is worthy of an entry in Believe It or Not.“Hark! What is that sound?” “Hush, it’s but the sound of Robert Ripley turning in his grave.”

I always thought a ferrule was an over-the-top comedian!
