I don’t want to get all serious about a comic strip, but … it’s not “bode well,” it’s “augur well” or “look good.” Bode is related to foreboding & has to refer to bad things. It’s not possible for anything to bode well because “well” is a good thing.
In Dickens’ classic story, Scrooge was told that the images he was seeing of his past were but shadows of what was. As such, these “shadows” could not see and were not aware of the presence of Scrooge and his spectral guides. Does that mean that Dr. Mel with the coffee cup and Winky aren’t real? And should they also not be aware of the ghost and cap-and-kerchief Dr. Mel?

Actually, the ghost looks more like the “Ghost of Christmas Present”… the “Ghost of Christmas Past” carried a snuffer that was used to put it out…
