I’m born in bred/bred in Washington (the state, not D.C.) with my father from Wyoming, mother from Arizona, and stepmother from Montana. Oh… wait. Never mind. As for my brother’s mother-in-law, she’s from jolly ol’ England.

Everyone in the western hemisphere is the descendant of an immigrant from elsewhere.

Unless they just got here themselves.

    You from Jersey?

Nope. I’m not British. I wore Jersey sometimes.

My parents’ parents were from Great Britain, Scotland, and France. So, Jersey Island is close, I guess.

When I had a vintage clothing store (a few hundred years ago, give or take),

we sold a lot of old basketball jerseys.

    Does that count?

    The “Melting Pot”:

My maternal grandmother came here, as a very young mother, from “the old country,” and never wanted to say any more about it.

Since then, Eastern European borders have changed so much, she wouldn’t be from whatever she might have called it then anyway…

(and Jews were never considered “from” wherever they lived anyway, but a people apart.)

Even my mother, born in the US, over a decade later, was uncertain about exactly where, and never called herself anything but “American”…

and never wanted me to call myself anything hyphenated either….

which I couldn’t do anyway, not knowing what goes on the other side of “        -American.”

And Kyle… that’s Maria, Elliot’s neighbor and best friend.

They’re 10-year-old middle-schoolers… a bit too young to think about anything “continuing.”

One reason Elliot acts so childish is that he’s still a child.

Btw – Reminds me of a dirty joke…

A couple made out in a car. She moaned: “Kiss me where it smells!!!” – Thus, he drove her to New Jersey…

My childrens’ female ancestor is an immigrant. I came here when I was 10. Have considered myself American ever since I became a citizen. No hyphenated name for me!
