You’d be surprised how hard it is to hit something in space. Supposing you stand far enough to avoid any harmful effects, you would have to hit the event horizon directly, or else the gravity would just fling the ball away in another direction. Perhaps it will get caught in the accretion disk, though it may take a several lifetimes to see it go all the way down. And that’s not even accounting for time dilation…
