It’s been on a slippery slope for sometime – is now wallowing in the mud most of the time.

The Brady’s slept on the same bed. They didn’t have a toilet though… Still closer than Dick Van Dyke.

When I think about it, it makes sense that most of television is crass and tasteless. After all, aren’t most of pretty crass and tasteless? At least in private anyway?

I think the beginning of the end was what my girls called The Crying Lady shows. (Soaps) Those people did things the rest of us didn’t, and the kids who were home from school thought it was OK. And so it goes.

As Martin Luther said of humanity, it’s like a drunk who falls off one side of his horse, gets back on, and falls off the other side. I don’t know that they ever got it in the Goldilocks zone.

writers and producers now go in for the shock value. personally I think it’s the type of movies and vid games that are out there – everyone has become desensitized. morals have become of thing of the past

And this is why I no longer watch current programming. MeTV, Antenna, TVLand and TCM get most of my viewing time with few exceptions, ie. Anything by Pixar or DreamWorks, ‘The Librarians’ & ‘Oddities’ (which I can’t even find anymore). Can’t even watch old cartoons on Boomerang because it’s not old cartoons anymore other than Tom and Jerry.

I’m going to blame the invention of cable (paid TV VS broadcast—supposedly kids can’t tune to the sex &violence accidently—& shows containing sex and violence are aired in late hours) and the deregulation work Reagan started and Clinton finished.

First married TV couple to share a bed in prime time?

    Fred & Wilma Flintstone.

And whine all you want – I’ll take Game Of Thrones over The Cosby Show anyday!

I’m so glad I can choose what I want to watch. No one is forced to watch any TV show.

Society is just as sick as now as it was back then, you just did not see it on TV unless it made the news reel. We have choices now as we did then to go along or to speak out and to turn off shows we deem unsuitable to watch. I do it all the time.

Yep, that moment when it was perfect just zipped on by didn’t it? Once they got away with two people in the same bed, I guess they figured they could get away with the rest of the stuff.

what still amazes me was the commotion in my high school when a female teacher showed up one day in a “see thru” blouse. she got sent home. yet the blouse was just mildly sheer fabric which did not show anything, especially compared to clothes worn today.
