There is an actual trope on that. And with some people putting on glasses does change their appearance in some way.

When he looked in the mirror, he said to himself, " I don’t even know who I am anymore." .

One of the sillier stories from the 1970s had Clark wondering how he had gotten away with this simple disguise for so long (he thought it up as Superboy, around age 10). He discovered that in order to hide his secret, he had been subconsciously super-hypnotizing everyone he met. People saw Clark as being somewhat thin, frail and balding, with only a superficial resemblance to Superman. Google “The Master Mesmerizer of Metropolis.”

No, it wasn’t the glasses; it was combing Supe’s forelock curl up over his forehead to become Clark.

To anyone who ever wondered why people couldn’t figure out that Clark Kent was Superman, go back and look at the 1978 movie starring Christopher Reeve and pay attention to the scene where Clark is in Lois’s apartment, in a different room from her, contemplating revealing his identity, and begins by taking off his glasses, standing up straighter, and abandoning his air of disarray, thereby completely eliminating the question.

There have been pretenders before and since (and I really liked Tom Welling), but there has only ever been one true Superman.

Glasses do seem to make one appear more intelligent – with exceptions. The current President may be missing an opportunity by not wearing them. But he’d open his mouth, as usual, and then…he’s just “Super-bankrupt” again.
