A nice pun here and a remembrance of the terrible hunting that is done even to caged animals to be shot by the rich.

The only kind of trophy hunting that should be allowed, world-wide.

It’s up as a wall mounting that is the easy part: only takes a long nail under the right elbow.

My dad was a sportsman, and his number one rule was “never shoot something unless you plan to eat it”.

Once you return the predators to their natural state there would be no need for culling.

As someone who lives not all that far from Kenosha, I’d like to quote a local sentiment on the subject: “Why do they call it tourist season if they won’t let us shoot them?”

I have often thought that the animals should be able to shoot back. Either that or it should be a one on one with no weapons. When I was much younger I used to read hunting stories and enjoyed them, but I (you should pardon the expression) evolved. Some people only grow older, not up. Serious character defect and despicable behavior.

We all evolve over the years. As a kid I was taught that you hunted for food not trophies. Aside from having a horse shot out from under me while I was hunting for elk in Colorado, ( which hastened my progression to enlightenment ), I devolved over the years from hunting with a rifle, to hunting with a bow and arrow, to hunting with a camera with a telescopic lens.

I loved the thrill of tracking but soured on personally killing animals. I have nothing against hunting and hunters, per se. Many of my close friend’s families depended on that deer, antelope, or elk for meat on the table in the winter when work and money was scarce. That is sustenance hunting – as is fishing for the same reason !

I really feel though, that the “sportsman” who is hunting simply for something he can mount on his wall, should be the one stuffed and mounted !

Most hunters don’t hunt. Almost all trophy hunters don’t know how to hunt, as they need, even when one is not required. They lose their argument about the ‘sport’ of it, as most use bait and salt lick stations. Cecil was killed by a dentist after being baited out of the park… As for deer and such, sure, they can’t use them during hunting season, but removing them during hunting season doesn’t change the trained behavior. The deer (antelope, moose, elk, bison, etc) will keep checking out those areas. So, the truth is, they not only want to kill something, they want to make sure they kill something. There was a time, hunters where more for the hunting, even if their best story was about the one that got away, and well maybe next year. Going hunting when you know there is a guarantee kill, well, that ain’t hunting.

As I have addressed before, but will reiterate, for those that will argue they are good for the animals they are hunting. The only way that argument can hold any water is if you hunt only the inferior animals (smaller) and not the biggest and strongest. Nope, you are likely doing it as a justification for your arsenal at home, and perhaps to compensate for something else you are lacking. BTW, no matter how big the head or rack, it will never make up for what you are lacking. After all, if it’s just about the meat, why pay so much attention to the rack on it’s head, and keep records on the largest rack ever ‘collected’? Is some part of you really ‘that’ small?

RIP Cecil. Google: Killing of Cecil the lion My former boss will never hunt in Wisconsin because of a deer slug that whizzed past him. He considers hunting in Minnesota to be safer. Those hunters in Wisconsin be crazy. While traveling in southern, lower Michigan, I heard a news report that a little girl was standing on a couch, looking out the window of her parent’s trailer, a rural setting, when a deer slug smashed through the window and killed her.
