You know, Calvin, it won’t be long before you’re pushing your Dad in wheelchair. You’ll be saying to yourself, “just the other day I asked him to jump a fence…”

I’ll be 62 in a month and spent 2 1/2 hours at a park yesterday running up and down a play structure and going back and forth between two swings sets while also periodically chasing down my 4 yr old mini-me. A great time was had by all. I will always cherish these days (of early retirement) of being a full-time dad and just acting like a big kid with my kids.

I’ve always thought of the song Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof as the lyric that most accurately describes my feelings about the 45 years since our sons were born. How did those years pass so quickly?

The heart strings are singing today! A good dad is priceless – and great dad is beyond any measure whatsoever. Our children should be best things we’ve ever done.

My husband when children was little never gave them horsey rides. I do not remember my own parents my dad doing the same. My mom never took us to the park. For me my kids they went to VBS, summer reading, to park to play, and I enrolled my daughter in summer swimming. My mom did none of that. She was afraid of water. My daughter also learned how to roller blade.Calvin is right time flies. My husband decided to retire at 62, first heart stent he thought of his dad whose heart stopped before 65 and husband is 71, me no I am not until full retirement, my husband did not mind losing what he could receive at full for me I want full.

As a person who’s currently growing up and has read this strip since I was a child, this strip rings true.

Even after the grand-kids are getting older (but not married yet), little kids out with parents seem to be fascinated by me (white hair and beard [ho! ho! ho!]). But I always assure the parents that “The grandfather instinct never sleeps”.
