    Nope, the sun’s not massive enough to go supernova. But it will expand in size, becoming a red giant, and swallow the earth, so true on the earth being vaporized.

    Red giant stars tend to blow off a lot of gas as they go along. So some of the earth may make it out to interstellar space.

    But what remains of the sun will form a white dwarf, and give off some light and heat for a quite a while after it shrinks back down to form degenerate matter.
