And day #2 of “Michael is a jerk.” Yesterday, he was mouthing off to his sister about how much better he is than she, and now he’s all ready to make fun of Lawrence for bringing his own pillow to a sleepover, the one occasion when you actually do want to bring a pillow to someone else’s house. Pointing out a kid who brought his own pillow implies that the other kids did not do this, and it is perilously close to pointing that Lawrence’s family is better off than the other kids’. Fortunately for Michael, Lawrence is a good enough friend to brush him off when he is being a jerk.
Is Michael a jerk for outing Lawrence over the pillow? You bet! Would most 12 year olds in a group of their peers do the same thing? You bet! Conclusion:12 year old boys sometimes act like jerks.Been there, done that.
Six 10-12 year olds fit themselves into our basement with one more sharing the bunks in Aaron’s room. I was surprised by how many brought their own pillow. Each pillow was a treasured object not to be trifled with!
Anyone who’s been around a rambunctious bunch of 12 year old boys, knows that this is exactly how they behave – especially at a sleepover.
Twelve-year olds are tweenagers, with all the awakenings and challenges of hormonal changes and growing up, but still wanting to retain the freedom of childhood.
Boys ‘mature’ at a slower rate than girls but the decibel levels of both sexes at this age – especially when they’re having fun – is off the charts.

At their age, you can’t bring your teddy to a sleepover!

His mother did say she’d expect more from him now that he’s twelve, but not more immaturity .

Maturity fron a 7th grader? C’mon now. What 12 year old boy has a sleep over anyway.

I think Lynn has nailed it.
