Lucy (inside house): Why do you think this will be a snow day? Danae (inside house): 'Cuz it's a fact! I'm tweeting about it now to let everyone know. Lucy: But if you just look, you'll see, in fact, that it hasn't snowed. Danae: Well, that's not what it says on twitter. Lucy: Uh...you mean that tweet you just made up? Danae: I call it direct from the source truth.

I think I’ve made that face Lucy made, while thinking, ‘Do you even listen to yourself when you talk?’

We know for sure that Danae will in fact go to school today. She will not likely LEARN anything while she is there, but at least she will be physically in the classroom.

With Betsy DeVos in charge, I can’t blame her for wanting to stay home. But on a more serious note; This story line is a direct reflection of the effect our so-called president is having on our youth. Think about it. Youth emulate what they see. If the president can make things up lies and call the facts, it justifies lying in the eyes of our children. (and some adults) Same with antisemitism, racism, etc.

Lucy, give it up! You’re trying to use facts and logic. Neither work in the alternative reality.

Reading through the comments so far today, it’s clearly evident that there are many who, like Danae, don’t know what “fake news” is. At least she has the excuse of being a ficticious child whose antics are for comedic purposes. The adults posting their lockstep willful ignorance here is, at best, terrifying.

Again, consider William Randolph Hearst, Spanish American War, and “fake news” that has been such for a long time, once called “yellow journalism”, and long the power of “conservative”, corporate benefitting outlets.

DTROUTMA
Hearst wasn’t the first publisher to manufacture the news. Before him, great newspapermen like Greely and Pulitzer, weren’t about to let the truth get in the way of a good story, in the United States and the scribes of London’s Fleet Street brought creative news manufacture to Olympian heights.
Rupert Murdoch’s news empire was modeled after those giants of the industry.
The difference is the rapidity that news ( fake or otherwise ) can be disseminated over a multiplicity of electronic outlets.
It was inevitable that someone like Trump, would see the advantage of using a platform like Twitter to serve his own ends, and reach a yuge audience.
Like South American dictators, he is attempting to bypass the free press, utilize media that favors him and go directly to " his people " through his incessant tweets. Which, by the way, like it or not, ( and I don’t ), are extremely successful in getting his message out to his base.
Americans have developed short attention spans and are conditioned to sound bytes and short, brief thoughts, raw emotion, vulgarity, and fanciful electronic information.
No wonder so many are enamored with his brand of communication.

Some people butt-dial by accidentally sitting on their phones. Trump butt-tweets to give it the odor of reality.

RedRoverCameOver I will post this in a couple of places. The moderators have, for their inscrutable reasons, vanished you. That means that while you can see your posts, others cannot see them unless they visit your profile page:
http://www.gocomics.com/profile/2966974
You should send a message to moderator@gocomics.com
Ask them why you are blocked. They have been doing a lot of this in the past week or so.Usually, you get vanished for personal attacks on other posters. But sometimes, there doesn’t seem to be a reason. They vanished Susan Sunshine and LeadingEdge, who never seem to do political commentary or personal attacks. Other posters sent messages to the moderator asking for their reinstatement, and it happened pretty quickly. You may or may not get an explanation.
Other readers, if you want RedRoverCameOver restored to the community, send a polite message to the moderators. Don’t bother to ask why. They will not tell you.
