Such a sad story arc, but so beautifully done. Another example of Watterson’s genius.

Yes, kids believe Mom can do anything. At my mom’s funeral several years ago, one of my brothers shared a story about how he as a young child accidentally broke a vase. He scooped up the remains of the vase and took it to our mom and said, “Here, Mommy. Fix.”

I remember thinking Mom could do anything I brought home from school. She’d always sit down and say, “Well, let’s read the instructions first” and then, “Oh, we can do this!” We was usually me. She told me it wouldn’t be fair to turn in an adult’s work. Took me many years to realise that a) my mom only had a 7th-grade education, so often she really didn’t know much more than I did and b) my classmates’ moms were doing a lot of their projects for them, especially crafts, which was why theirs were so much more perfect than mine.

I’m amazed Calvin is being sensible enough to not touch the injured raccoon himself. Not at all his normal reckless behaviour.

Maybe it’s RJ (Over the Hedge) on a Twinkie overdose.

That kind of trust is the way it should always be between child and mother.

I’ve never read this arc before. Now I’m sorry I read the comments. Ruined it.

I’m not familiar with this story line as are many of the other readers.

My first reaction, “Good thinking, having a tiger watch over a baby raccoon. Hello, it’s lunch time.”

That is so sweet. Children and baby animals are kindred spirits.
