Maybe the point is that Les is clueless about his “girlfriend” who ironically is getting him to do something good, while Gunther is clueless about girlfriends in general. So in that sense they might be the same or at least similar. As far as the mom or the uncle they are both clueless about the history, but want, for whatever reason, to encourage at least a friendship. That is not going to work, unless there is a surprise coming up. Lets see it’s Wednesday so by Saturday maybe we will know something. This is not simple anymore.

Very disappointed that Mrs. Berger orders Gunther to show Les his sewing room. Just sets up a fight between those two, and for no good reason (other than maybe Mrs. B and Mr. G wanting to be alone. But they could have done that after dinner, anyway…)

Even if Gunther knows Pru is gay, telling Les that doesn’t do Gunther any good. Here’s one way I could imagine the situation taking place:

Gunther: “You know, Pru is a lesbian, so I find it unlikely that she’s your girlfriend.”

Les: “She is? Huh! Well, I was just joking about her being my girlfriend anyway. Hey, you remember Bernice Halper from school? She’s straight, isn’t she?”

    Gunther: “Uh, yeah …”

Les: “Okay.” [takes out his phone and dials] “Hey, Bernice, this is Les Knox. I wonder if I could take you to dinner? And just to be clear, I’m talking about going on a date.”

So. Les takes the mick with Gunther and gets around to calling him gay. Gunther gives him guff back, including some bit about Pru being a lesbian. Les is all, ‘Hommina, hommina, hommina… say what??’ Awkwardness ensues.

Too bad, but Les has the upper hand here. Gunther will either answer, or punch Les. man, this is getting good! I smell a brawl! the end of “Gunthie” is near, I hope. not to mention that he may out Pru(ne) as a Les, to Les.

Perhaps Gunthie can sew Les a costume. A bright orange one – piece affair with a huge black letter “P” on the back, or a vintage two – piece with black and white stripes and a cute little matching pill – box hat.

Les’s first comment about “heard from Rosa?” could have just been bad judgement with nothing else he could think of to say. But now – Les’s comment equates to the first punch. Is Gunther gonna surprise us with a big sockaroo?? Mrs. Burger did turn out to be totally clueless…

Mrs. Berger and Mr. Gray are treating the boys like 6 year olds. The arc, itself, is wearisome, with a large dash of apprehension, and it features the most unattractive characters on the drawing board.

Actually, getting away from the baleful influence of “Rusty” Berger (yes, I’m fascinated by her henna-red hair) could lead to a twisted rapprochement between these two misfits, Gunthie and Leslie.

Now there’s a plot turn that could have all kinds of unforeseen consequences!

Why has everyone avoided the easy fix. Gunther to mom: “Mom, I really dislike Les; however, for you I am willing to tolerate him, please accept the fact that we will never be friends.” Gunther to Les: “I really have no time for you. Let’s just get through this for our parents” “We can fight, whatever, anywhere else, around our parents, we keep it cool”

Why didn’t Gunther just leave when he found out people he didn’t like were coming over? He’s a grown man, he didn’t have to stick around and have dinner with Mommy. He could have gone somewhere else to eat.

This is stupid. What’s wrong with Ms. Berger and Mr. Gray? These are GROWN MAN. They are treating them like 12-year-old boys. If they don’t want to be sociable, too bad.

Gunther and Les should act like grown-ups and try to make small talk for the sake of the others. However, Berger’s and Gray’s “do this, do that” is rude, too. Matching rudeness with rudeness is never polite and is rarely wise or helpful.

A few people here have suggested that Gunther might punch Les. But I would hope that Gunther would be able to resolve his problems with Les without resorting to physical violence. Since Les is antagonizing Gunther with rude comments, Gunther should retaliate only with words as well.

It’s fun to import some excitement into these story arcs by talking about Pru’s orientation, but it just isn’t significant anymore — it faded into the background long ago. It was a one-time plot device to “resolve” the issue with Quill. If Les hasn’t heard about it after all these months of working with Pru at Kafe Kablooie, then it’s faded away like that missing TV or Tiffany’s ambitions to become a star. The hopelessness of Les’s pursuit of Pru stands on its own without her orientation. His creepiness and her obliviousness to social cues that seems to go along (in Luanniverse at least) with absorption in theater, would be plenty.

@JPUZZLEWHIZ: I don’t honestly think that if one guy asks another if he makes ‘doilies’ that the first guy is just making conversation. Les is just letting Gunther know that he has no respect for him, and goading him to respond in some way that will get him (Gunther) into trouble…

I think Les’s finding out about Pru is going to play out more slowly. Gunther has never had any direct interaction with Pru to make me think that he knows much about her; and he doesn’t spend time at the Fuse. Pru is mainly friends with Luann (and Bernice too). I think Luann’s involvement in the kids’ theatre will eventually reach to Gunther (for costume work). he will mention the ‘girlfriend’ line of Les’s and it will go from there……….

The ‘my girlfriend at work’ comment of Les’s doesn’t seem to have any effect on Mr. Gray, who previously stated to Mrs. Berger that Les ‘needs a friend’ (hence doesn’t have any). Pru is the only ‘girl’ working at the Fuse and Mr. Gray is her supervisor but the comment didn’t seem to make him perk up. I guess Mr Gray only pays attention when issues that relate to $ and Les’s owed payments come up

Mrs. Berger is an awful mother. What parent of a bullied child, even if he is now an adult, would force the bully and his victim together? Now if she had said tried to meidiate some sort of peace by making Les truly apologize or whatever, then that would be different. But shes calling her son rude for refusing to talk to her bully. I hope that this blows up big for all involved.
