Golly – does it take two weeks to get home on a bus? The wedding is supposed to be December 11. And yet, they said they’d be back the day of the wedding?

That was it? The big action-adventure fighting a wildfire? Shades of Gunther and Rosa’s non-romantic escape to the secluded mountains of Peru. Nothing happened, and I’m afraid with Greg, nothing ever will happen.

The Sliding Timescale is something we discuss occasionally over on the Dick Tracy boards, as from our point-of-view Tracy has been fighting crime for over 80 years, though for Tracy probably only about a third of that time has passed, given that current artist Joe Staton has pegged Tracy’s “in-story” age to be early/mid-fifties.

    .

Sometimes, it’s best not to think about it, and let things – uh – “Slide.”

Yes, that’s the wedding planner, who apparently wasn’t needed since they already took care of everything so I’m not sure exactly what they’re paying her for.

I doubt Toni will notice whether they are gray or periwinkle. She doesn’t seem to be the type. TJ might actually do good!

This would have been the perfect time for Evans to design a logo for the Pitts (Township?) Fire Company(s ), but noooooooooo; he has to dumb it down for those who don’t recognize the people with the helmets, boots, and fire-proof jackets.

Time certainly flows differently in LuannCosmos, but dates often happen synchronously, like Valentine’s day. So I was surprised.

Wait are they getting married this week? Or is that just the rehearsal? Contrary to those who think nothing ever happens with Greg Evans, and spend years saying that while watching the strip, I think something is about to happen.

The computer Deep Thought found that 42 was the ultimate answer, but couldn’t discover the corresponding question after 7 million years of effort. So the mice, who are pan-dimensional beings, decide not to go through the whole thing again and settle for “How many roads must a man walk down?” from Bob Dylan’s song . “Blowin’ in the Wind”.

“Is there a problem?” Something about TJ’s big smile looks phony. Makes it seem like yes, there’s a problem. First thing that occurred to me was that perhaps Cottage 42 has not been paid, at least a deposit. Was TJ given the money for that back in September and has somehow “forgotten” what it was for?

I wonder why TJ seems to want to cover up what’s going on from the Cottage 4-2 lady.

If he had said, “The bride and groom are firefighters, and they’ve just got done fighting a fire and need to get dressed for the wedding here,” that’s not something that he should need to hide from the Cottage 4-2 lady. Brad and Toni are paying customers of the Cottage and they aren’t doing anything wrong.

Maybe TJ has such a tendency toward sneakiness that he tends to cover up whatever he is doing even if he isn’t doing anything wrong.

There’s nothing unusual about time being stretched out in a comic strip. Here in Luann, all the daily (not Sunday) strips from Aug. 15 thru Sept. 14 took place within one day.

I find it intriguing to look at the backgrounds in the wildfire strips – Greg starts with them driving up through green hills and trees. They arrive and there is smoke from behind a hill. Over the next few, the smoke gets heavier and closer, you see a plane dropping retardant, and the trees vanish, until today’s, with nothing but grey, barren, hills.

The date in the strip must be a day or 2 before Dec. 11. It depends on how far away they went for the wildfires. TJ and the others are not dressed up for a wedding so it is not Dec. 11 yet, unless they are planning to go home to change. So it must be Dec. 9 or 10 in the strip. Still a lot can happen on the drive home.

Hmmm, unless they are having groupings of centerpieces (harmony), those would mean quite a few dinner tables since there are also the non-grey, non-periwinkle ones…

Here is a question: when long holidays roll around do cartoonists make sure that nothing major happens on the sequential days when people are more likely to be forced to miss the strips due to busyness or being away from home? It woukd make sense.

    .

BTW, “busyness” is the foundation word both for the name of a group ferrets and for “business”.

IF they are not doing groupings, and if all three colorations of centerpieces wound up nine to a box in three boxes (though there may be more) and if the table sizes per centerpiece average to five (thinking of four to six people per centerpiece) that woukd be about 135 people. Toni wanted small. Brad wanted large but even more wanted Toni to be happy. I suspect therefore that the centerpieces will be used in groupings.

15 real-time days until the wedding, and the fire crew is already coming home? Uh oh, sounds like there’s trouble on the road ahead.

Based on the panel I saw in my Sunday Sun-Times (I always get my Sunday papers on Saturday night) I think this marriage will happen this week. Luannverse time is always tricky, and this blog has a good combination of STEM types who try to quantify everything, skeptics, who question everything, lawyer types like me, who try to logically understand everything (totally useless endeavor), teacher types (again me), who try to explain everything, but in the end GE LLC and Karen decide everything. So we will see. -:)

Is it allowed to say “so like a woman”: Toni is brushing out her hair even before cleaning up!

The crews were evidently bussed in to the fire-fighting HQ in some cases, though if memory serves (I’m not going back to try to find the exact day and strip), Toni and Brad arrived on an engine, presumably from their station….

    Onward to the wedding!
