“What happened to North Carolina? At the beginning of this century, it looked like a state poised to set a good example of forward, scientific thinking for the entire South, now it’s like a Lester Maddox wet dream.” NASCAR has been there awhile, and maybe if the people look at some issue, the people won’t notice the meth, weed and moonshine businesses. Also, Franklin Graham moved the Billy Graham Crusade moved to Boone NC, near the only two Baptist Naturist Retreats(Southern Baptist nudie camps) I knew of between Florida and Delaware. It is kind of cute that Billy Graham himself converted from Presbyterian to Southern Baptist. Those retreats are closed now. I’m not saying Billy Graham wanted to get in on some of that hot Southern Baptist Nudie Action, but the timing of his conversion is…curious. Asheville NC is somewhat near Boone NC, and Anderson Cooper’s family built the Biltmore estate. So I guess all those tech companies in Research Triangle, and two major banks, may have to move out of North Carolina in order not to scare off business.

In my experience, the question that each one of us must ask ourselves is: did we choose our own sexual orientation?. Was it a choice? In thinking about this we can also ask ourselves: did we choose our eye color, height, country of birth, skin color, shape of our ears, pitch of our voice, parents’ religion, etc? Perhaps answering that question(s) will lead to greater understanding, empathy, and tolerance.

I have no problem at all with what NC did. I applaud them for it. If you are male you go to the men’s room, female to the women’s room. If you don’t like what you were born to be, worry about it on your own time in your own space. 9 or 10 year old little girls should not have to deal up close and personal with screwed up men who don’t like what they are.

I wish the cartoonist and the commentators would actually read the law. It only applied to gov. buildings and not private businesses. The intent was to prevent abuse by allowing someone to “feel like the opposite sex” and utilize the bathroom. People that looked and acted like the opposite sex had been using the restroom stall of choice for years but as usual, government had to get involved via a transgender law in Charlotte. If someone truly looks and acts like their chosen not birth sex and uses a stall no one would say anything. We in NC are not as backward as you would like to indicate. The traveler in the cartoon would have no problem unless he wanted to identify as a woman and enter the women’s restroom. I don’t think he would be mistaken for a woman like a true transgender.

In my city they have spent millions of dollars putting in sidewalks with ramps in case a handicapped person wants to roll down a busy street. Never seen any one use them but hey it is only money. Taxes aren’t too high are they? Same goes with those three undecided people that live in the area that don’t know which way to swing. Just have the good old tax payer build a third bathroom in every business in the area or pass a law that all bathrooms are unisex so we can move on. I really don’t want to explain to my three year old granddaughter why a man dressed as a woman is in the girls bathroom. Maybe she won’t notice. Right!

One word: Art Pope (well, technically two). He’s the millionaire grocery chain owner who, after citizen’s united, poured millions into local NC races against unsuspecting Democrats to forge a complete GOP takeover of the state. In most cases I believe that people deserve their government but this particular situation might be the exception. And now the state has been gerrymandered to insure that it will remain that way for a long time. Sad for the people but we’ll see what happens.

Ever notice how many of these laws about sexual incorrectness (for lack of a better term) seem to originate with legislators who are later found to be pretty incorrect themselves? Y’know, like Larry “Wide Stance” Craig, or Dennis “Intimate Massage” Hastert, or Mark “Text Me, Underaged Page” Foley, or Newt “I’m Almost Single (My Wife’s Almost Dead)” Gingrich? I’ve come to believe that when a politician is frothing at the mouth about something like this, it’s a cry for help: “Only by outlawing this can I keep myself from doing it! Please help!”

ALL of this misses the point… The bathroom part is ONE section of HB2, there are 4 others. The bathroom part is just to stir up the dust and keep everyone from seeing the darker true purpose beneath… Section 2 removes the ability of NC employees to sue for discrimination in the workplace based upon age, gender, race, religion, disability, etc in state courts. You can still sue in Federal court but it is MUCH more expensive, lengthy and difficult. Section 3 removes the power off towns and municipalities to enact wage laws, or to exclude contractors bidding on contracts for violations of workplace law or discrimination. 4&5 knit the whole thing together and enact several clauses making the whole thing more difficult to repeal. HB2 was passed in 30 minutes without discussion or ANY public debate in special Saturday session, which the NC Democrats walked out off in protest. HB2 is a gift to wealth business owning politicians and their wealthy business owning donors!! Do a search on “how hb2 effects those who are not LGBT” !!!

“What happened to NC?” Same thing that could happen anywhere… NC is two worlds the rural and the urban… When SSM was made legal the backlash in the country put the conservatives in charge. They then gerrymandered the state and appointed cronies to all crucial offices, made it illegal to mention climate change in official documents, drastically cut funding to public education and gave tax dollars to private schools, attacked the state university system including stacking the UNC board of governors and appointing Margret Spelling, legalized fracking and made it illegal for towns to pass ordinances forbidding fracking… the list is endless… The total damage done here will take decades to repair.

“Depends on what you mean by that. How am I “escalating” anything. If backing someone like Trump a good thing to you or not? Please tell us why.”

Sounds like an essay question in high school.

As Zz9pza said, I didn’t mention Trump at all. It seems like you brought him up out of left field because, — I don’t know, — you like to get into it with his supporters. However, I’m not going to go there

I will explain “escalation” per your request. Let me tell you how disagreement works in polite (read mature) company.

If one is presented with a viewpoint that differs with his own, that’s an opportunity to consider what’s being said and formulate a logical, well thought out response. That leaves room for me to read what you wrote and consider if I have a flaw in my position, or tell you why your answer is incorrect.

Resorting to knee-jerk name calling (eg. “superstitious and hatred”) is usually the go-to for people without a logical argument. It precludes any discussion and is insulting as well. That’s what I mean by escalation. Kapish?

No markings on any door other than “rest room.” No one complains, no one makes any dumb remarks. You select an open one, do your business, wash up and leave. Problem solved!

His Golden Integration Plans in the ’60s did much to dull the effect of racism and similar plans could combat sexism. Maybe his threat to form the Jewish Society for the Preservation of the Christian Ethic might help.

Wouldn’t need that birth certificate if you had a law making it mandatory for all citizens to wear a badge declaring their gender orientation. Call the President. He can probably issue an Executive Fiat to get it done.If not, I’m sure there is an Agency or Commission somewhere that can add it to their regulations with the proper incentives.
