Doubt of the benefit (Man: I want to kill someone. And get away with it. So I'm going to wear a blue uniform.) My magical blue uniform automatically means I get the full support of politicians" (Man: What video"?!? He's on paid desk assignment. *Includes ridiculous cover-ups! *And ass dragging!) A D.A. can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich- but he'll barely pretend to try to nail me. (Man: Sort through these random documents and use your knowledge of state law to see if maybe a violation occurred) Best of all: A blue uniform gets you the benefit... even when there's no doubt! (Man: Self-defense! He didn't know his victim wasn't planning to kill him first!)

Take the money awards from the police pension fund rather than the taxpayer and you’ll see these brutality/murder incidents go away. The “good cops” will quit protecting the “bad cops” when their pension is involved. I don’t hate police officers but I do hate cops who are criminals themselves. Pass it on.

I recall something you said a while back in your blog, that I have come to fully agree with:
Fire them. Fire them all.
That attitude was reinforced by a snippet I heard on NPR about the code of silence, which has not been addressed by anyone. If you don’t speak up about the actions of your fellow policemen, YOU ARE CULPABLE.

CeraboogeWhat do you mean, no one? I have been squawking about police adopting the mafioso omerta philosophy for years, including in these discussions.
jonesbHitting their pensions won’t help. It’s the “good cops” that maintain omerta, and, because they are in the majority, they are the most likely to get killed in the line of duty. However, they go along because that risk is far less than getting killed by the “bad cops” who get promoted up the ranks and support omerta all the way to chief.

Hippogriff: Sorry, I probably should have qualified that with “almost no one in the law enforcement community”.

Police pay into their pension funds. Why should all officers pay for the few that break the law?-When the US government does something wrong (e.g. Iraq War based on lies, torture) should your Social Security benefits be reduced because of that? There were (and still are) a LOT of people that think Iraq War was a good idea and that torture was OK.-Good cops can report wrong-doing to management which is then ignored. Jason Van Dyke (Laquan McDonald) had several questionable items in his file.

Hmm Air Force blue, Army “dress” blues, Marines blue, Navy blue, about those blue uniforms and license to kill, even folks who haven’t done anything wrong, or against us?

Nance: Social security may be defunded to help pay for the Iraq war. The "good cops are guilty by covering for the bad cops. Accessories after the fact or even during the crime. "Omerta will not stop until it really them. I believe police should be held to the same if not higher standard than the general public, not above the law. Same for politicians.
