Unless I’m in a Filipino home, I always figure the giant spoon and fork (usually carved out of wood) on the wall mean your family was in the military.

My parents didn’t care for the huge wooden cutlery…

but we had the tiered brass trays, the camel saddles, and the Greek wall plates….

and as a bonus, a set of straw-filled leather hassocks,

which became kinda like our “bean-bag” chairs (only not soft!) years before anybody ever heard of actual bean bag chairs.

We were never stationed in Asia, so we missed out on the fake Japanese swords and the framed Malaysian kris.

If I got that as a present, I’d hang them in the garage.

It’s the thought that counts. A snide comment about their registry is just rude…

Huge eating tools have a strange appeal for the Penny’s. Or maybe it’s just gifting anything they could pick up for a quarter at a yard sale. Or maybe, looking at the bride and groom, giant fork and spoon seemed like something they would use.

Keep one by the front door and the other by the back door to chase off unwanted visitors! “Thank you very much, Burl and Joy! You are so thoughtful!!!”

I would say “Where on earth did you find these? I’ve been looking for a set for ages” then when the told me (The Dollar Dump) I would make a bee-line for that store and take ’em back!

I remember the set on “Everybody Loves Raymond”. When they took them off the wall their outline remained.
