Hmmm… I like Artist X but loathe Artist Y. If Artist X covers one of Artist Y’s songs, I might like X’s cover but still loathe Y’s original. Likewise, if Y covers one of X’s songs, I’ll probably consider Y to have “ruined a masterpiece.” For instance, Richard Thompson’s cover of “Oops I Did It Again” pleases me mightily (and in no way interests me in Britney), but Madonna’s cover of “American Pie” makes me ill (and in no way taints McLean’s record for me).
No problem. My choir teacher asked me to “mouth” the words so the rest would sound OK. I can “sing” along to most any song. I could probably be paid not to sing along. Great idea, I am out of work right now. Maybe down at the park. Thanks, I could use a little extra coin. I could become famous for singing, or not.
