There has not been any evidence that voter fraud is a problem in several past elections. Clearly laws that limit early voting, eliminate voting locations, and create involved process to register are aimed at disenfranchising certain segments of the population. That should be unacceptable in a democracy.
The numbers tell the story. In Pennsylvania, 2012. Number of cases of in person voter fraud: none found. Number of people disenfranchised by the voter ID law: 750,000. Never take conservatives at their word that “it’s easy to get ID.” Many people do not have their birth certificates handy, and if you’re in a nursing home or living a minimum wage job, you don’t necessarily have a driver’s license and no way to get one without spending days in lines. Any fee on voting is a poll tax, and that’s the ONLY reason why voter ID is popular among conservatives.
Republicans/Fox “news” viewers have unique knowledge in this area, as in so many areas:
They ‘know’ there is voter fraud. It is both widespread and undetected. And it absolutely justifies disenfranchising likely Democratic voters.
They ‘know’ that the invasion of Iraq was completely justified because Saddam had a nucular program that was spirited out of Iraq just before the invasion and is buried somewhere in Syria.
They ‘know’ that Obamacare has all those death panels that will eventually sentence you to death.
They ‘know’ that Obama is preparing to invade Texas.
And, of course, they ‘know’ OBAMA IS COMING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS!
What’s funny is that the people defending Voter ID as a legal & sensible solution to a non-existent problem are equally insistent that increasing gun background checks are an intrusion on their Second Amendment rights. It’s not ‘ha-ha funny’, though.
ARodney: My mother took a year to get qualified for Social Security. No birth certificate. In her days, the only copy was filed in the county courthouse – and a lynch mob burned it. In west Texas, registering today takes a day off work, a 400 mile round trip (with no public transportation) and about $200 worth of paper work – worse if you name ends in a vowel, s, or z.
Tell that to the Former Speaker of the House who was recently denied a Voter ID in Texas because he didn’t have “Good Enough ID”..Once upon a time, 3rd in line for the Presidency, and they told him NO!..“Wiser Heads” prevailed after he went on Television and they decided that HE was the Exception to the Texas Laws about Voter ID..
If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal.Emma Goldman.Oh, wait. I live in Florida where Governor Voldemort and his Death Eaters are Trying to do just that.
LOL, black voting rates are at record highs and exceed those of whites in many locals in the Deep South. It takes a lot of gall and arrogance for Libs/ Democrats to continue this lie after they used the IRS to execute the largest and most successful voter suppression campaign in decades.
I just love how libbies/proggies make up stuff and then put it out there as a fact without citations and expect that we’ll all buy it hook line and sinker. Is that right @ARodney? Here is a nice little website that documents all sorts of voter fraud and the legal cases associated with it. Kinda ties it up in a nice little bow for you, huh? As for your statistics, how about some links? Yeah, didn’t think so.(http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=2216)
Our Republican governor Susana, here in NM, handed her Secretary of State six figures to prove widespread illegal voter fraud – why we needed upgraded ID, blah, blah.
She came up with 12 people who registered to vote by mistake over a decade, only 2 of them tried to vote. When it was explained to them by the poll watchers they were registered incorrectly – they left.

I agree, I’m in Blue State and need ID. If you don’t have a license an ID card costs about 20 bucks. People can get ID to buy liquor easily enough.

If you have to prevent people from voting (as has been admitted), you are admitting you can’t win on ideas.
