From the St. Pete Times: More of BP’s money has been heading to the campaigns of Republicans than Democrats. And as an industry, about three quarters of the oil and gas money has gone to Republicans since 1990, the Center on Responsive Politics noted. That disparity held true in the 2008 presidential campaign, as McCain and his running-mate Palin accepted $2.4 million in contributions from the oil industry, more than double the nearly $900,000 that went to Obama.”

Arrest BP execs. Liquidate the company to pay for all those “lucky duckys”.

It clearly doesn’t matter how far offshore the drilling is when the oil companies and inspectors ignore the regulations put in place to prevent such events from occuring. And that is a great triumph for those that want bi-partisanship.

The government tells me if we didn’t demand illegal drugs, there’d be no more drug violence Does that mean If we didn’t drive so much and got a little inconvenienced by using mass transit—–?

Lew, you’re coming around. Congrats! Big Oil has run many administrations over the last century, including your favorite, the previous one. when Big oil runs things, then we get miserable to non-existent mass transit & diminished investment & research in alternative energy sources.

The oil spill & the dead workers are because BP decided that its profits mattered more than did safety & security.

If BP were an ordinary natural person, it would be awaiting trial for involuntary manslaughter. But instead it’s a state-chartered ‘for-profit’ collectivity with all of the rights of a ‘person’ and none of the responsibilities. Maybe it will have to pay a fine.

It does seem to be trying now; the worse the effects, the worse the PR, after all. Too bad it didn’t plan ahead. Very few corporations seem to plan for anything more than next quarter’s bottom line. That’s the trouble with these artificial persons; they’re really not very smart.

You claim corporations (which are actually conglomerations of humans) are wrong, but here you are, happily partaking of their products. That’s pretty not smart. I don’t say that to upset you, just to state a fact .
