I know that political correctness started on the college campuses of our nation to supposedly try to keep peoples feelings from being hurt. However since truth is situationally relevant in the minds of all those who I know that push politically correctness – truth can thus be sacrificed for political correctness as far as they are concerned. The sad part is that if truth is situationally relevant, so is political correctness, thus making it possible to attack or justify anything by making it politically incorrect whether it is true or not. Thus truth can be eliminated in any argument, discussion, or speech if the truth (facts) should in some way offend someone and cause them to feel bad or angry and therefor justify NOT focusing on the truth or facts in any given situation.

“Round about way of saying if the truth offends you your political correctness says you can ignore the truth?”

I do not mean to respond for saddendby, but your question prompts me to say this:

If you read many posts on this site (and certainly on comment boards everywhere), you will find people who ignore the truth when it conflicts with the point they are trying to make. All groups are affected: right/left/center.

As you correctly point out, it can apply to anything from anybody. So it is not limited to “political correctness”. It’s more along the lines of “I won’t believe it because I don’t want to.”

Along those lines, as I’ve posted elsewhere, I invite you to go to any search engine and look for “Muslims against terrorism” and see how many references you find. But many, many people are ready to wipe all Muslims off the map for the sins (and they are major sins) of a small percentage of them.

Facts are facts. Choosing to ignore them does not make them go away.

Political correctness has its place. It’s nice to be polite to people, even if you don’t necessarily want to be. But you can take anything too far, in either direction.

pretty much – however the danger of political correctness is that truth can be ignored if one so chooses. and if it is labeled politically incorrect – whether truth or not – relevant or not – than one can have the ‘right’ to attack the person who is politically incorrect and seem to be justified in doing so. the danger as always with any movement, law, or society cure is that it usually starts out with intentionality of ‘helping’ or ‘solving’ a problem but then is taken to the extreme by those who hijack the intent and thus can create even greater problems. it is usually why society breakdown goes to a dictatorship or single party rule in that since there is no ‘absolute’ truth in people’s minds the one/group who is the strongest than dictates to everyone else how they must live their lives. thus individual freedom is given up for ‘the good of all’, when in fact it is in most cases for the ‘good of some’ at the expense of all.

I’m sorry. I missed the politically correct defenders of the attack in France. Can we have a source please?

Meanwhile, Michael, I’ve missed my annual “War On Christmas” cartoon from you. And where is the “Hah Hah, Al Gore is stuck in a snow bank” annual? I’m disappointed. Christmas isn’t christmas without a “War On Christmas”. And winter isn’t winter without the Al Gore one. Please rectify this situation immediately! Or I will complain to the Koch Brothers!!!!

Were the lies about WMDs and coverage of “shock and awe”, just PC? Radicalism is the problem, and whether with a AK 47, or or B-52s, F117s, and drones(btw a cruise missile IS a drone).

No I wasn’t trolling for a fight, but I guess you are. I don’t need your permission to post my opinion!! Do you realize how many on the left post the same comments on multiple ‘toons?? How so many on the left post comments that have nothing at all to do with the cartoon?? They just post some mindless liberal drivel that they recently rad or heard. How on every conservative cartoon there is at least one mention of Bush, Cheney, the “Rush Faux News”, “sheeple”, “republiCONS”?? Never see you calling them out. So thanks for just reinstating my point. It’s never ok to criticize a liberal.

“Politically correct” is another name for “normal social manners.”

No, it’s current translation on the left is “Shut Up!”
