mikefive: are you being intentionally dense? It’s obvious that the objection arose specifically and only in relation to waterboarding. They’re OK with those other barbarisms, but not anything that smacks of Western culture. (Although, “ban all cigarettes” seems like a very good idea to me).

MIke: SERE school does do “interesting” things as part of training.

While IS, and other groups have long incensed Americans especially with their “brutality”, every time one of these incidents comes up, I relate them to children and cluster bombs, napalm, white phosphorus, fuel/air bombs, and those wonderful plastic land mines so difficult to remove, leaving those kids with life long horrible injuries, if they aren’t ’’lucky" enough to be killed by our wondrous “defense” technology on display in so many countries around the world. Not to mention VX, “smart bombs”, and “Hellfire” missiles that strike civilians, weddings, and schools instead of “militants” such as ISIS, or Contras, who may indeed deserve our “generous” efforts at hegemony and backing such nice folks as our once upon a time buddy, Saddam Hussein.

While videos of “beheadings” are effective propaganda, that backfires with the “civilized” world, what those same “civilized” folks have done to hundreds of thousands of people known as “collateral damage”, isn’t subject to the same outrage. Well, at least not with those who’ve never been exposed to the real horror of wars, and Man’s inhumanity to Man.

And of course “Gott mit Uns” applies across language, national, and cultural realms, because nobody has brought peace to the world like organized, radical, religionists, of many stripes.

^Just the real effect of being hit by a .50 caliber bullet is “interesting” and not at all like Audey Murphy’s little scene in “To Hell and Back”. It’s whisk broom and dustpan time.

Now coming to light that the leaders of “ISIS” are mostly ex-Iraqi officers that Bremer and Bush kicked out of Iraq, instead of reviewing who should have been kept around to rebuild the country.

The Americans seem to come from wealth and privilege, just guys who went nuts, wanted to go out and kill someone for a radical ideology. Hmm, if from the “middle class” or poor, they might have become Marines.

“People like UNCLE JOE think that shoving a garden hose down a prisoner’s throat, turning on the spigot until the stomach was distended, then slamming the butt of a rifle into the gut, followed by a bullet to the head— the definition of “water boarding” by the Japanese during WWII”Where did I say that? It’s sad that you need to put words in my mouth in order to find something to disagree with.Ah, yes… our torture is so much more… civilized. The Japanese also did a fair amount of the type of torture that does leave marks & permanent injuries. Since when is, “I wasn’t as bad as that other guy”, an excuse? You boys have reached the point of ridiculousness.
