Ted Rall for August 29, 2014
Transcript:
Blacks, whose turnout was higher than whites, and voted 93% for Obama in 2012, are being told that voting more for democrats- not protests- is the way to end racism and police violence as in Ferguson, Mo. Police Officer: Y'all are 7% short of us cops not shooting y'all.

Presidential elections people turn out for.
Mid-terms and local elections get snubbed, and thus only the hard-liners(of whatever party) get represented.
Florida’s latest midterm primary had a 20% turnout. What was yours like?

NebulousRikulai: Florida has closed primaries; reeaaally closed primaries. If there is a write-in candidate, even if there’s no other candidate that will be on the ballot, the primary is closed to other parties. And as usual in this Republican-dominated state, one of the candidates will get someone to become a write-in candidate. After the primary, the write-in candiate drops out. Democrats don’t even get a chance to vote for the lesser evil.

No, voting Republican is going to solve it… oh wait (I love your work, Ted, but it’s between a rock and a hard place) :)

My husband and I voted in the primary in Michigan a few weeks back. We were there at 5:30 PM and we were the 34th and 35th voters respectively. We live in a very conservative district and our votes for Democrats (often only one candidate on the ballot) didn’t count for much, but at least we made the effort.

the reason that all but one of the city council and all of the school board in ferguson are white is because very few blacks bothered to vote. i think their turnout was around 6%.

The message here is that voting for Obama caused the Ferguson PD to be 90+% White. Yeah, sure. Let’s try and stay in the real world for just a bit – the change will do us good.

We don’t yet know the facts. Suspend judgment till then.-My understanding is that the police NEVER wrote an incident report of the shooting.-Have the police EVER stated their version of the shooting?

Twenty percent voter turnout you say? Hummm. Sounds suspiciously high to me. We’ll have to start charging a poll tax! And if that doesn’t get “their” attention, we will have start requiring voter IDs. Clearly too many of “those” people haven’t gotten the message yet. Stay away from the polling place!!
