I used to drive a cab. One day I kept passing this same intersection where a man was holding a sign, “Will work for food”. At the end of the day I got a call to pick him up at the Hardee’s on that corner. I forget where I took him, but on the way I told him that I know a man who might put him to work in one of his two businesses. I told him I’d write the the name and phone number down and give it to him when we stopped. But when we stopped, he got out, whipped out a huge roll of cash, peeled off more than enough for the fare, and took off while I was still telling him about the man.

Only a centralized wealth system in which all goods and services are controlled by a just and fair authority, providing for each according to their needs and taking all that is in excess of their needs from all others can be considered as compassionate and righteous. Only when everybody but the ruling party is suffering poverty and deprivation can true equality be known. And then we’ll get back to every man for himself, scrambling for the much smaller crumbs not swept up by Central Authority.

You might be surprised, SS. I have seen vans from local shelters drop people off at the local Wally worlds early in the morning and on other occasions, pick them up. I’ve often wondered how much of their ‘take’ went to the shelter driving them around.Respectfully,C.

Our local newspaper partnered with a shelter & now they sell you papers from the corner of different intersections & the off-ramps to what is our version of an interstate. The paper costs 75 cents in the machines. I guess people give them a dollar & they keep the change. I’m not really sure how it works. I get mine delivered, so I’ve never interacted with them. I wouldn’t buy any from one of the guys no matter what. He is always smoking while holding up the paper. I’m one of those irritating people who is sensitive to smoke. I’ve never understood why a person would waste any of their money on such a product instead of getting real food. One of the reasons I grew up in hospitals was my mother’s 4-pack a day habit. She quit cold-turkey after her lungs started bleeding. She’d smoked for 39 years. She had started at 13! in the 50s. If she hadn’t quit she would not be here today. As it is she still wound up having to use oxygen because of all the damage that couldn’t heal. At 12 during one of my numerous trips to the E.R. they told mom that I had the lungs of a 40 year old smoker!!! That was all from second hand smoke. I never tried the stuff. At 17 when I tried pot for the first time (out of 9 times total) my friends said you do it just like a cig. They fell out laughing because they had to teach me HOW to inhale!

You guys are missing the Joke…………..its not about pan handlers at all, its about the Very Rich and the putative “trickle down” effect. They are doing what the guy on the right is doing……taking a bigger share of the national economy and saying they will create jobs with that greater share.

The way I see this comic, the real problem is with the phrase “his share”.It assumes that they are both “entitled” to a “share” of the passer-by’s money.Forget that! This is a Capitalist not Socialist system.

Communism arose as a result of the affects of unregulated capitalism…….The guys in the suits were put up against a wall and shot……not good for the guys in the suits and as communism demonstrated, not really good for anyone else either. Nobody creates wealth all by themselves………not even guys in suits.

No that IS the trickle down theory. “Lower our taxes and we’ll hire more people.” “Let us bring offshore money into the country tax free and we’ll hire more people.” “Stop taxing us and we’ll hire more people.”

Letter to the editor in our local paper told how a person saw a panhandler, then later in the day saw him leaving a grocery store with four full grocery bags. Out of curiosity he followed him, and the man walked a few blocks and went into a really nice home. There is a store we shop at regularly, the same woman panhandles there. She’s been doing it so long she’s not a “young” woman any more. But she’s still there, like it’s her job.

There’s a photo “out there” of two panhandlers sitting in front of a doughnut shop that has a “Help Wanted” sign in the window. Funny, yes, but when you think on it, the shop wants someone with clean clothes and a recent shower, who will show up reliably: things a homeless person can’t necessarily handle over a long term..My wife works retail, and is making more than minimum wage here in CT, but her income (after healthcare) would just about cover rent for a 1BR. And she’s the last of the full-timers: they only hire part-timers now, and so even less income. That’s the genesis of the $15/hr movement: it isn’t right that someone should have a job and still be unable to make ends meet. I’m willing to pay an extra quarter for a burger to support that.

No, it’s what the libtards WANT the way our Republic be presented while passing laws to make it seem that way, while in fact substituting wealth transfer programs (ObamaCare) in place of wealth growth programs.

Like, oh, say, stop passing MORE regulations that get in people’s way and start repealing old laws that get in people’s way. Like the silly rule that says gasoline must have x% wood pulp based alcohol when no such thing is on the market in an industrial scale.

Like such ludicrous fuel requirements and “incentives” such that its cheaper to buy an electric car, but without considering what it costs to MAKE that electricity (carbon – if the power comes from a nuclear plan or hydropower, wind, or solar; carbon + for coal, and largely neutral for others) or the energy required to build the batteries instead of a motor (carbon + for ALL power sources).

    Politics makes bad policy.

I once had a job through an employment agency because the actual employer refused to hire directly. The agency did not hire me, did not train me, did not provide ant sort of support, did not even withhold pay for income tax. When I quit, the agency was unable to replace me — I actually found my own replacement.

For this sterling work, the agency collected 30% of my pay.

Yes, like I said, “trickle down” was simply a catch phrase used to promote the latest version of supply side economics to convince the general public to vote against their own best interest. This economic policy sounds great. I bought into it when I was a young man and didn’t know any better. The problem is the same as communism. They’re two sides of the same coin in that the great sounding theory only works by the benevolence by those at the top of the pyramid. The fatal flaw for both theories is human nature. The money stays at the top with the powerful. Conservatives keep repeating the supply side theory as if it’s been proven sound, when in fact, it has always led to a collapsed economy…the depression of 1873 (everyone seems to forget about that one), the Great Depression, the recession in the 80’s and again in 2008, which actually started back in 2006 thanks to the gutting of banking and trade regulations…you know, those things that were put in place following the Great Depression to PREVENT another economic collapse. I’m one who tries to learn from experience and change my views when I see something doesn’t work. That’s what real conservatives used to do. Unless you mindlessly follow right wing extremist dogma, regardless of many times it’s proved to be disastrous, you are not considered a conservative. Nixon and Goldwater today would drummed out to the Republican party today as they’d be seen as flaming liberals.

Yes, some do. There was a corner near where I worked that had a car drop a “panhandler” off at an intersection near us. It appeared the car had 2 other “panhandlers” in it. The panhandler near me would disappear on (I assume) breaks. at the end of the day after rush hour, the car would come back from the direction in which it left and pick him up. I suppose that is circumstantial evidence…

The boys in the cartoon could be a slide illustrating for Reaganomics.

Trickle down is actually not what the popular definition says it is.Calling it trickle down is somewhat like obfuscation. The concept is that a healthy economy has a low cost of living which creates wealth at the lowest levels without increasing their "share’ of the currency, by making required goods and services affordable by the least wealthy. The opposing theory states that currency, which is not actual wealth at all, but only the symbol of wealth used in exchange of real wealth, is all that is required to better the economic conditions of the least wealthy. Thus it is said, “The love of money is the root of all evil.”

ONCE AGAIN SOME HAVE RUINED IT FOR OTHERS,THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE REALLY HOMELESS AND COULD USE HELP,AND THERE ARE SOME WHO TAKE EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE. THERE USED TO BE A MAN AT MY SECOND JOB WHO MUST SET IN A CAR ON THE WEEKS THAT WE GET PAID AND WATCH FOR US TO COME OUT,BECAUSE I NEVER SEE HIM WALKING ACROSS THE LOT,AND I KNOW FOR SURE THIS TOWN FEEDS PEOPLE WHO NEED HELP BECAUSE I TAKE FOOD AND OTHER ITEMS TO THE HOUSE WHERE YOU CAN DROP THINGS OFF,BUT HE CLAIMS TO BE HUNGRY,I STARTED PACKING A LUNCH BAG WITH SNACKS AND HEALTHY FOOD IN IT INSTEAD OF MONEY BECAUSE IF HE TRULY IS HUNGRY IT IS SOMETHING TO EAT AND MOST OF THE CARS THAT ARE PARKED AROUND ME AT THE TIME ARE NICER THAN MINE. OK THERE IS MY SOAPBOX FOR THE DAY.
