The local police are doing their best to quell rising class tensions. With the 19% poverty rate, rampant unemployment, hundreds of people homeless, an influx of people from Chicago bringing their drugs and gangs, and a county government that refuses to build yet another jail, it is no easy task.
I would guess daily demonstrations, nightly riots, looting, arson and all the media coverage and reverends making speaches are not effective solutions to the problem.
“Yet, they still live there. Why ?”The cartoon is of the current racial tensions in Missouri. That leaves us to interpret your post as “Why don’t the blacks go back to where they came?” I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you interpreted the cartoon as being about illegal immigrants.
When the race-baiting democrats are taken out of office, and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton become non-issues perhaps the residents of Ferguson will be able to move on.
At this point, blaming this mess on Ferguson is like blaming D Day on the French. Most of the cops are from out of town, and the troublemakers are from all over the country. Ferguson is a decent low to middle income town that had the misfortune to be declared a war zone.

I will agree with you that Republicans control the house. But that doesn’t make them wholly accountable for the state of the economy. If Lord Harry and President Zero really wanted some legislation to occur they could make it happen by compromising with those across the aisle. That’s how this government has worked for 240 years.
I will also agree that Jobs are scarce in SOME communities. Probably even scarcer in Ferguson now as the local population has destroyed some of the local employers’ businesses.
But you seem to have an uneven handed approach to assigning blame. The Republicans are to blame for sticking to their principles and not compromising but the Senate Democrats and the President are to be commended for not compromising.
Those who are on Welfare are not to be judged for not caring for themselves regardless of the effort they put into a job search.
There are plenty of jobs out there but you have to go to where they are. You may have to leave the community in which you were raised and move to where the employment is. But again you blame employers for not bringing the job to the worker.
And I never hear a peep out of you with regard to how we hold the citizen accountable: It isn’t a coincidence that the Unemployment rate for African Americans and High School dropouts is high.
My heart goes out to the Family that lost their son. No matter his contribution to the situation – It must hurt to lose a son. But I have nothing but contempt for those who use this situation as an opportunity to foment violence and looting.
@1953 – Wyoming, Idaho, Oklahoma, Utah – Isn’t if funny how the Red States that are successful also happen to be the States where people are taught to respect the lord, rule of law, and the rugged individual. And those were identified without even looking at a map. There are others.
And many states – Red and Blue alike – make their money off the extraction and processing of natural resources: Oil, Coal, Silver, Gold, Timber, Sealife, etc. etc. Are you suggesting that money earned by refining a natural resource is somehow dirtier than the money earned building a car or teaching a child.
I honor all honest work. The man or woman that goes to work and earns a living to support their family is the hero in the American narrative whether they are: Running a cash register, turning a wrench, driving a drunk or excising a tumor.
@Trusted – I had to think long and hard about your extension because I hadn’t given it much thought. I think I would have to honor that work. It isn’t legal where I live but neither is dealing black jack or selling marijuana. If the local laws and customs make it legal then I do honor that work.
And I stand by what I say about those states. I think the reason they are successful is because they do subscribe to values that lead to self sufficiency, strong communities, discipline, and self respect.
As a minor correction – I meant to say Driving a Truck and not Driving a drunk; I ’m not sure what happened there.
Those that work hard, live within their means, support their community, save for a rainy day and teach their children to respect themselves and others seem to do a lot better than those who do not.
Kudos to those in the Ferguson community that are speaking out against the looting and the violence.
