Val: I had a family meeting with my daughters about you.
Phil: How'd that go?
Val: Apparently, if you remember to put the seat down, you can spend more time at our house.
Val: Oh - and they don't think we should have children.

I think it is good timing for Val to tell Phil as he is taking a drink makes it more realistic and Phil won’t choke on what he is drinking. He too wasn’t thinking about babies.
I did that once in an airplane when the flight attendant leaned over to talk to a window seat passenger, and stuck her left leg straight out behind herself giving some right side passengers an unobstructed view of her underside from across the aisle.
From yesterday’s comments on age difference for the age of having babies to when the mom’s parents. When I was born my relatives where way older. My parents where in the 30’s. My dad’s dad I don’t remember him too much. My only reason I feel when I or my mom had baby late in life me the child has less time with them due to health issues the parent has. My dad died at age 79 to young. He has brothers now older and going to 90. It’s not to my thinking on how I feel, is the time and activities we participate. And if due to health someone can’t the child looses out.
One of the posters who wrote they where 34, I think, when they lost their parent I feel sad for them.
My husband lost his dad when he was 22 I think he was not given a chance to be with his dad as he got older. The parents waited 14 years between him and his older brother so he was deprived of the chance to do adult outings with his dad.
My dad decided to retire at 62 to enjoy life with my mom had a short time of it as his health deteriated.
and actually, I have the perfect solution to this “seat down or not” dilemma - let’s always everybody put the whole lid down BEFORE flushing (have you seen those videos of the water drops coming up from the toilet while flushing - with all those s-h-i-t-t-y germs along?). That way ppl always know to lift the lid before sitting or peeing with seat up…

Val, you really shouldn’t tell him stuff like that until he puts his glass down …

Finally Phil gets in on the big conversation. I almost thought Val’s fam was going to plan her wedding solo and just send him an invite.

fine. leave the seat down and pee away– in fact, superglue the seat down and everybody will be happy
pearlandpeach about 14 years ago
did Val mention marriage in all that conversation. Phil’s reaction seems about right.
marvee about 14 years ago
Will he now back off from the whole idea?
marvee about 14 years ago
Leaving the seat down would mean a lot more cleaning. Besides, they have 2 bathrooms now, so the girls shouldn’t have to share with him.
gosfreikempe about 14 years ago
Yeah, that’s calmly facing up to the whole truth, Val. Um, careful, Phil; you don’t want to mess up the uniform!

Boy, that’s going from “courting” to living together (or 0 to 60) in no time flat. Wasn’t she just contemplating if she really loved him or not?

I had to search for the Stone Soup strip as it was missing from my favorites, and what came up was just yesterday’s. I wonder if today’s will appear.

We here don’t get SS in Sunday paper. Anyway Happy Easter everyone. Too bad we didn’t get to see the kids Easter egg hunt.
runar about 14 years ago
Half the strips published have easter egg jokes. Give us a break!
