I would more concerned if Rover encouraged Red to meet people like dogs do, sniffing the glands from behind.

Oh! : D I had completely forgotten the sensation of letting a layer of white glue dry on my palm – and then peeling off the clear ‘print.’ How cool was that!

I’m realizing that the common thread among my favorite cartoons – C & H, Heavenly Nostrils, R & R — is the direct pipeline to childhood and its memories their creators seem to have. That paste bit, WOW! I haven’t thought of that in years. And years. And…

Back in the day, I assembled model airplanes. Between every component, the glue would ooze out of the tube. I had to bite off the oozed glue before the next assembly – after all, it required two hands to hold the pieces together. I’ve never had any harmful effects…. effects…. effects…..effects.

I also assembled model cars, airplanes, ships, you name it! Of course, the glue we used for plastic models was not exactly healthy! Why, I believe there were a few kids who actually put a few drops in a plastic bag and took a whiff; can you imagine that?.Now, the white paste glue we used in my early school years… that was different! It smelled wonderful, and tasted better than the school lunches most of the time! Except the pizza burgers, they were delicious…

neverenoughgold: Before effective tremor set in, I was a museum modeler, a judge for the Academy of Model Aeronautics, a director of International Plastic Modelers Society, and a recreational modeler. I have never seen a glue sniffer who was any good as a modeler. Indeed, very few inhalant abusers used model glue, but rather gasoline (cheaper in those days) or lacquer thinner (quicker). Yet laws were passed restricting or even banning “model glue” while city attorneys cheerfully defended it on grounds that it would be selectively enforced! I have even seen chewing gum used for emergency repairs, but like gasoline and lacquer thinner, no action was ever taken against those (other than raising gas prices from the 27¢ a gallon price when this campaign started).
