“Lex Associates?” We may well get Superman involved in this strip yet (at least as an inference, like Popeye and Batman were).

Take the first letter from Associates and add it to Lex. ALEX is a fine anagram for AXEL!

I prefer the “old Sam”, the cigarette smoker! The “new Sam” simply doesn’t look at all like the Sam we know and remember. Sam could be smoking one of those “electronic” no tobacco cigarettes!

So the nuclear accident thing was just a phony cover story. Typical.

DaJaellyBelly and Jim Douglas are probably on the right track here.

The thrills, the excitement! “Daddy” looks ready to judo chop someone. If he did it’d be the first bit of “Action Jackson” in what seems like 70 years! Honestly, this combination platter is beginning to taste a little bit spoiled. Don’t hate, life is great!

“Who?” says Sam.Lex Associates; do the anagram thing, detective! It’s Axel Nasti and gang, that’s who. Can Agent Fritzi arrange a federal investigation of Thunder Island? What has become of Hotshot Charlie? Maybe we can get some AFSOC recce?

Voting is closed and the results are now being tallied for the 2014 Harvey Award for Best Syndicated Strip or Panel. As much as I enjoy Patrick McDonnell’s excellent Mutts, I’ll be rooting for Team Tracy to make it two in a row. The strip is tremendous. Still, those of us who enjoy Mutts are familiar with the acorn-tossing squirrels. They’ll bonk all those who pass under their tree, while offering witty commentary. Looks like they are a bit peeved at Annie, given the high caliber of this crossover. She got plunked.

It’s amazing how a rumour could cause the island to be declared off limits for decades. As for Lex Associates, it’s obviously just Axel spelled backwards, so Axel is leasing the island.

Also, Axel has apparently spent 4 years preparing the current scenario. It required not only money, but a lot of time.

“Lex” is Latin for “Law”. Maybe a bunch of these karky fixers?

It looks like Asp would relish the opportunity to interrogate Axel. Yes, Axel has put a lot of time and resources into setting up Thunder Island. Given Axel’s desire for world domination, and the explosive nature of Kenyon’s work, it seems he is manipulating Kenyon in order to obtain a powerful weapon. This begs the question, “What about the time-travel tease?” Smith is working on project “Blue Image.” Warbucks assures him that he is not alone in taking on such research. Still, there is no indication that any time travel has taken place. Could Axel be planning to secure a powerful weapon from Kenyon and then travel back in time to alter the outcome of WWII? Far fetched, but it seems safe to assume we haven’t heard the last of time travel in this ripping good yarn.

Guess it took a long time for the chemical accident to be cleaned up. There was an EPA Superfund toxic waste clean-up site not far from where I lived. The liquid poisons leeched into the ground, and spread for about a mile. The solid waste was buried all over town, in schoolyards, playgrounds, etc.

@*Rightwingmoron* from yesterday: From your comments,.You got my curiosity – Which of the other townsfolk (not Axel) do you suspect of being from the present?.And what did you mean by “Tardis”?.Too bad it’s so late in the day. Hoping you see my question and might answer (probably tomorrow)..Ray Toler chimed in about “Tardis” being Doctor Who’s time machine..But I’m still curious as to whom on this island you think, besides Annie, Tracy, and Axel, are from the present time!

cheapskate, keep in mind the simple fact that SAM IS A CARTOON CHARACTER and as such (unless the writer puts it in) cant contract any of the sicknesses that WE do from smoking etc

i say let sam light up every minute of the day.. indoors, outdoors, wherever he ants to.. its his TRADEMARK and let the PC pushers fall to the side

Maybe like a Mid east war zone, a “Withdrawal date” on this Homeric adventure might be in order. 2014? 2015? Just a hint please?

Speaking to the PC police out there….Are e-cigarettes any safer for passers by than the original cancer sticks?.Especially with ads like “Take back your freedom!” we’re getting a lot more of these folks puffing away indoors..I know the devices are for self-administration of nicotine. But what do passers by get as they pass through these vaporous clouds?.Just because it’s odorless, doesn’t mean it’s harmless!.Oh, yes. And now that whacky weed is legal here in Colorado, I’m wondering just how long before we get e-joints!.Wondering if I can get fired for second-hand smoke!

“Chances are those schools etc. were open land back when the dumping took place…”-—No, the schools etc. weren’t open land – the company producing the toxic waste gave it away free as “clean fill.”So when remediation began, it was turning up in schoolyards, baseball fields, people’s yards, etc. all over town. Before the clean-up began, the company responsible knew they were in deep trouble financially, and spun the factory off as a separate business. So when the Fed’s came with the bill, the facility declared bankruptcy, sticking the clean-up cost to the taxpayers, while the corporation that made it is still happily in business, in another town.

NG, you DO realize that you are “humanizing” a cartoon character right?

and no, i have no problems with smokers at all.. what i DO have problems with are people that think its their life’s work to PREVENT them from doing whatever they want with/to their own body. you dont like smokers/smoking.. fine. Just don t try to impose your will.moals/whatever on someone else thats all.

    live and let live

Does that company headquarter itself in a tax free haven country ?"--I don’t know, but I still see stickers with their name on NASCAR racers.

Another topic: I lived in Webb City, Missouri, just north of Joplin. The big deal there was the now defunct lead mining industry..Just about all real estate around the Joplin area is horribly polluted with “tailings” from the old lead mines. Additionally, the area is laced with underground, abandoned tunnels..I remember when the parking lot at Missouri Southern State College (now a university) succumbed to a sink hole..You guessed it, that sink hole was an abandoned lead mine..I don’t know what to say at this point other than to note that parents were told not to let their kids play in the dirt..What? Kids not to play in the dirt?.Now, that’s un-American!.And now, back to Thunder Island.

As a side note, it’s fascinating to me that posters have been sniping with one another for hours, and for once, ‘the usual suspect’ had nothing to do with it! You gotta love it! (May I add, LOL!)
