Remembering my experience with spankings just wants me to stand period.

So Joe was assaulted by his abusive parents when he was a child.

My mother says she received just one spanking in her life but obviously thought well of it and gave me several — although I had to work to get them.

Only twice??? I got spanked a lot as a kid. However, my parents always asked me to determine the number of licks on my butt. The worse one when I was 10. My mom said to me that I was too old to spank. She wanted me to slap myself on the face. I quit messing around after hitting my face.

I remember being spanked once as a child, for riding my tricycle in the street when there was a moving van there for the neighbors, after I’d been specifically told not to. It was the right thing to do. I think one of the reasons that it made a huge impression was that my parents DIDN’T spank for routine stuff, which also was the right thing to do.

When I did something wrong my dad would tell me to go to my room, take off my belt and wait for him. While I was waiting dad would sit down with mom and have a cup of coffee and laugh at me because they knew I was dreading the whipping (with my own belt to add insult to injury). As an adult I can see it was a good system . . . he had time to cool down and I had time to reflect on right and wrong.

“Sir! I think it’s deplorable for an adult to strike a child!”.“Noted. And I think it’s deplorable for a child to die because he never learned “no” means no."

Hitting and spanking are two different thing, hitting you do out of anger with no control of what you are doing and don’t really care, spanking is when disciplining a child that you have told not to do some thing but they do it anyway as a form of punishment with out being angry and you have full control over yourself so that you know that you want go to far and really hurt the child.

AMEN! Spankings and the belt were needed, to which I am grateful for now.

No. It wasn’t abusive then. It is terribly sophomoric to judge historical figures out of their time.

As my history teacher said, “Sure. Slavery and torture are evil NOW!”

I remember doing scientific research when I was very young. We had chickens and I wanted to see if they could fly. After a good chasing and making several of them fly over the fence (they really can fly) my scientific quest was halted by the nearest peach tree limb. The reason given for not chasing chickens was that they won’t lay eggs. I was scarred for life. I grew up to be a happy, society contributing, college educated individual.

My mom would spank us fairly often. To add insult to injury, she would take our paddle ball, remove the ball and use that on our butts. She did this until one day when I was older I just started laughing and couldn’t stop when she tried to spank me. That was the end of that.
